Buell
Buell
A used Buell Blast, sgl cyl 492cc (I believe). Have rode it and it seems spunkier than I thought it would be. 04 mdl. Wants 4K. I'll probably offer 10% off that figure. Good brakes, faster than I though a thumper would run. Faster than a buddies older suzuki 650. I didn't push it but you could feel the potential. I'm sure you experience riders would think it slow by some metric standards? I know the K 500cc Vulcan is quicker but they are hard to find used.
Any thoughts on whether it is a good choice as ones initial bike.
thks in adv.

Ha. "Spunkier", huh? Welcome to the world of motorcycles.Hardly wrote:A used Buell Blast, sgl cyl 492cc (I believe). Have rode it and it seems spunkier than I thought it would be. Now you understand why I tell people, "Keep your first motorcycle under 60HP!"

The Buell Blast is only 30HP. Now you see just how powerful 30HP can actually be. Has quite a kick, doesn't it?

Yes. That is a GREAT bike to learn on. I started on a Ninja 250 which is about 36HP and was plenty fast for me when I was a newbie.

Woah...4k? No way...the blast from 01-06 is EXACTLY the same, with some exceptions to the 01s having a paper gasket that needs to be replaced with a TSB (a couple others)...anything late 02 and up will be the same.
That said, pick yourself up a earlier year for 2k with low miles (under 2k miles is easy to find).
4k for an 04 is not worth it...these things are 5k out the door brand new. I'd pay 3K at the most for that unless it was still in the crate.

Thanks for the responses. Current owner only put 365 miles on it. Never dropped. Sounds ok,. vibration at idle. normal. powerful brakes. Erik sure made his bikes solid. quick to turn. quick on initial start & quick to stop. Owner claims top spd of 95-100.. find hard to believe. Yes, asking too much for it but they think it is made of gold I guess. Current owner upgraded to a new dyna-ride (I believe thats what it is called). Going to make an offer... If not accepted then onto shopping again. Not 'brand-specific', metrics are great too. will keep it under 40hp or thereabouts. K-500 Vul, Yam 650 cruiser, but I prefer 'mid frame controls' not the forwards like on the cruisers.
Thanks again for the opinions.

95mph is believeable from a blast, that is about as fast as they go.
I got a 2001 blast for my wife for dirt cheap, needed a little work from the previous owner who lowsided it with 3k miles on it.
the vibration is normal, it has no counterbalancer.
I will let you know how it rides once I get it into ridable condition (bought it less than a month ago).
I doubt I will ride it much, it is a tad cramped for me but fits my wife great

All early blasts, all common issues with the early models of the new bike line that was addressed and fixed by Buell. You can find a dozen complaints on the net for any vehicle...doesnt represent the majority.9000white wrote:http://mybuell.com/

I had a 2000 Buell Cyclone...very low miles...a very reasonable price...it took two months to sell it.....
