if you like the 250R below 6500rpm you will love it once you get it above about 8000 or so and get to were its really making power. Ninja 250s can be fun for the simple pleasure of revving the hell out of it like a race bike but only doing the speed limit

true that. i cant wait to see what 11grand sounds like in any gear. and even below 5000rpm it sounds to me like im really going! im anxious to get the first 4-500 mile on it so i can be "not so gentle" with it. the clutch is magic compared to those bikes at the MSF too, i can really feel this one catching. the magic friction zone.

2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250R in yellow!

its awesome. anyone who was told that a 250 is too small and you will get bored has probably never ridden one. i was just in a neighborhood but i am 240lbs 6'2" and it will pull me pretty good.

My first bike was a 2004 Ninja 250 in yellow. You made a good choice.

I keep trying to tell that to newbies all the time. That "little" 250 can be wicked-fast with its 36HP. That's why I laugh at the nimrods who have never ridden and insist that they "need" 70, 90, 100, even 160HP.

Congrats on buying something smart as your first bike.

Have fun. I had mine for 16,000 miles before I moved up. Even after 16,000 miles, I knew I wasn't able to ride that little 250 to the full-potential it has.

dragon, im not gonna get all emotional on here, but i added a special note to you in my blog. because of you/your site was a major factor in my decision. while i was at the dealer this guy came in to look at a gixxer 600, he said ot the dealer "im taking the class in a few weeks but i used to ride dirt bikes abotu 15 years ago so i think i'll be fine on somethign a little bigger than these little kid bikes (pointing at the bikes like the one i just bought)"

i just looked at my girlfriend and said "thats why insurance rates are so high, the average lifespan of those plastics is like 5 months"

I'm flattered that I was able to provide a positive influence on the start of your riding endeavors. A mere 30 months ago, I was one who had never ridden a motorcycle and was researching advice on the Internet. Now, I have over 23,000 miles under my belt and I'm trying to "pass on what I have learned" like any good Jedi under the tutelage of Yoda.

(By the way, the GSXR-600 is 120HP ... more than triple the power of your Ninja 250. Now you understand why guys like the one you saw in the dealership use them as "guardrail decorations" ...)

Have fun on the Ninja. And, yes, don't follow the break-in period. The rumors about a "blanket sticker" for all the Kawasaki bikes is true. My dealership confirmed it and I called Kawasaki and spoke to an engineer there and they told me the same thing. Just keep it away from redline and you'll be fine. Once you get that little fella up into 8000+RPM, you'll feel like you have a whole new motorcycle. As a friend said, "It has a well-hidden set of balls."
