Oil for an FZ600?

#1 Unread post by Tazmn23 »

Well, when I bought my 1988 FZ600 the guy didnt have a manual to go with it, and I cant seem to find one anywhere, except ebay. But, I need one now, because the bike has been sitting for 5 years and I want to put some new oil in it, before driving it. I don't know exactly what kind of oil goes in it, and I cant find it anywhere on the net. I was going to call the local motorcycle shop, but its not open. I want to ride it today, so would anyone have any idea on what kind of oil this thing takes? It doesnt say on the bike either :/.

Run the best multi-grade oil you can find today. If you have to use automotive oil, make sure whatever you buy doesn't have a little star-burst symbol and say something like 'With Friction Modifiers'. Try to find a motorcycle specific oil if you can.

10w40, 20w50, wieght depends on the temps where you are, but either of those 2 or similar should be close enough for now.

But...... what are you going to do about a filter?
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

Does the bike even run with it sitting for 5 years?? If it does, I am amazed someone actually had the forsight to drain the carbs, and add fuel stabilizer to a full tank while keeping the battery on a trickle charger! Bravo!

well, the bike was sitting for 5 years and I had to buy a whole new set of carbs, etc. Well, I guess I wont change out the oil until I can find a oil filter. So, I'll just wait, and goto a yamaha dealership tomorrow. Thanks.

Good idea, just doesnt make sense to put new oil through a dirty filter.
