Time to upgrade. R6 or GSX-R 600?

Hello All,

I've been riding my ninja250 for a while now and I think its time to upgrade. At first I was leaning towards the GSX-R 600 but now that I have sat on both the GSX-R and the R6, I’m starting to like the R6 too! Now if it wasn’t for looks, which would be a better bike overall? I like the way they both look equally so I think I will make my decision on which is a better bike overall. If you guys can provide some pros and cons that would be great!

Thanks,
Denny

The 04 R6 was the most comfortable sport bike I've ever sat on. It's my pick. Known now as a R6S. Havn't sat on the newest R6 yet, but if it's the same to sit on as the R6S that'd be my choice.

The R6S is basically a renamed previous-model R6, which they're continuing to make as it's cheaper and less race-oriented, although still more expensive and sporty than the 600R.

Between the R6 and the gixxer I would get whichever one is more comfortable to you.

I have heard a few isolated reports of fuel injection problems with some of the '06 gixxer 600s and 750s but repairs were covered under warranty.

just remember the '06 R6 does NOT rev to 17,500rpm, the tach is optimistic like most sportbike tachs.

If you want the 600R better get em while you still can, I have a sneaking suspicion that the 600R wont be around in '07, I think the R6s is slated to replace it (just hope its ergos are relaxed a tad if it does replace the 600R)

I have yet to sit on the new new R6 but have sat on the R6S and I found it to be quite uncomfortable.

I found the gixxer 600 to be quite comfortable.

Im 5'10" and have a 32" inseam

I duno about losing the YZF600R. It's kinda like the 599 to the CBR600F4i/RR. Just with fairing and made by Yamaha.

Okay, so maybe it's better compared to the F4i after all since they have the FZ6 to compete with the Hornet. But it fufills the comfy sport bike spot that honda/suzuki/kawasaki have with the F4i/Katana/ZZR. Because as comfortable as the old R6/new R6S is, a Katana is more so. And I wouldn't be suprised if the ergos on the YZF600R as similar to the Katana.

If it was my money, I'd go with the GSXR. The '06 model with the short exhaust looks bad "O Ring"...I don't like what the R6 has going on with the fairings on the side. Both of these points being purely cosmetic....go with which ever one is more comfortable. They're both fast as hell.
2005 Suzuki SV650
Get a yellow one....they're faster

the 600R is a little closer front to back than the katana, you can stretch out on the kat more, the 600Rs pegs are a tad more rearset too. both have the clip ons above the clamps like the ZZR and F4i.

the gixxer isn't too bad despite having the clip ons below the clamp, the gixxers clip ons are a bit farther forward than the R6s and are on little risers that put them even with the top clamp, the pegs are also adjustable.

I actually am more comfortable on the gixxer than I am on the F4i, you sit pretty upright on the F4i BUT even I am cramped and cant move around much, the ZZR and 600R are better in this area. the 600RR is just plain horrid as is the 636

 I havn't had a chance to sit on the 600RR. The 929RR's are comfy though. So maybe Yamaha will remake the YZF600R to be a bigger/roomier bike?

You should pick up the new (June) issue of Motorcyclist magazine. They have a big 2006 middleweight comparison.

They both get roughly the same mileage, the GSX-R has a broader powerband but the R6 has more HP ut both have similar amount of torque. The gixxer has best performance stats. The R6 has taller seating.

There's alot more info in the mag so I suggest picking it up. They, for the most part, said it's really hard to see which bike comes out on top.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.
