what does everyone think about icon? A dealer by me has some nice textile jackets that are pretty inexpensive, I just bought some gloves yesterday and they seem pretty good, they also have a padded mesh jacket from first racing how are these brands?

Icon makes alright gear, probably on par with Joe Rocket, etc. I just don't like the "badditude" they try to play out. Sorry, but I don't need the word "hooker" on my jacket or skulls on my helmet...

yeah, alot of their stuff is really squiddy, the jacket I saw was just black with some sponsors (which I could do without) and a flaming 3 on the back which I may be able to remove, but it was $99 so... I also say the first racing jacket there for the same price it was just red and black but I wasn't sure about the mesh look

I like their Mainframe helmet and own one. Their gloves are little to be desired. Their stitching on the gloves suck and the finger length is all unproportional.
I own a pair of their $130 boots. Not bad. Stiff tho.
I do like their jackets eventhough it's a bit loud.

Kidding, they make good gear that serves it purpose. That's enough for me

As for Icon, I really think they market their products towards the squid community. Look at their ads! A guy popping a wheelie on a Gixxer 1000...Icon. A moderately attractive girl scantily clad wearing...Icon.
Bugg, one thing. I wouldn't call that a racing jacket. When's the last time you saw someone doing laps at a race wearing a jacket and jeans? It is a "sport cut" jacket. It's supposed to appeal to sport bike riders (tighter against the body, armored, etc).
I personally break the manufacturers up into 3 groups. Low-iffyish group (Icon and others), middle (Joe Rocket, Teknic, Tour Master, and others) and high (Alpinestars, Spidi, Dainese, Vanson).

oh I know its not a racing jacket, I was referring to a company called 'First Racing' haha if I had the bux to be racing I sure as hell wouldnt be buying gear at a kawasaki dealer!
I'm just looking for an affordable textile jacket that will give me some sort of protection for when it really starts to heat up

I currently own a pair of ICON gloves and I'm quite happy with them so far. I have large hands and the XXL seems to fit well.Bachstrad37 wrote: Their gloves are little to be desired. Their stitching on the gloves suck and the finger length is all unproportional.
Now if only I could find jackets and shirts to fit my wrists...

I also have a a pair of icon gloves. They are good summer gloves (tarmac 2.0 i think) and let me feel the controls very well. And I am very picky about feeling my controls. ( I like to flash my lights at intersections and such) But, I only have around 300 miles on them so I don't know about durability.
