Looking for info about the Honda Magna 750

#1 Unread post by Streak »

I'm going to get my first bike and have read some good things about the Honda Magna 750. Can anyone give me some good first hand info on this bike and would it be a good starter bike?
I'll be riding it on a lot of Interstate (50 miles each way to work and back) where the spped limit is 70mph but most vehicles are moving closer to 80. I also want to do some pleasure riding with my wife with some long trips involved on twisty mountain roads. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks, Streak

Hi there

I previously had a 1984 Magna V45 750 before my Honda cbr 600RR. I started with the Magna and thats the bike i used to get my liscense. A great bike, easy to handle and enough power for a starter. Thats my opinion.

I also used to have one of the old mid-1980's Magna V45's . I loved the bike at the time and still remember it fondly. It had plenty of power and was a nice comfortable ride. I also probably should have died on it more than a few times; it was only my second bike and was WAY more than I could handle at the time. It didn't help any that I also lacked maturity and didn't treat it with nearly as much respect as I should have; of course, I was indestuctable back then.

If it was my son asking me then there's no way I would allow him to have this as his first bike. There's plenty of life to live, and time to learn on something a little bit more manageable. Having said that though, I did manage to survive it, and you probably could too.

Whatever you decide, take the MSF!

Thanks for the info.... I'm 38 so hopefully I have most of the invincible ideas out of my head and can handle the 750.... What I think would be Ideal is the BMW 1150 RT (No way I would risk wrecking that much on a first bike though) I hear it is awesome cruising the highway. Since I'll be spending most of my time commuting at high speed, this would be a good thing. Maybe one day!

It ranked #4 in this comparison if that helps.

The later models were outstanding. A shame it was killed. They don't look like they go, but with the V4, they smoke a lot of the big bore v-twins.
