I thought this area was bad for motorcyclists but...

Don't know about where you are, but here (California) bicycles are legally required to ride on the road and can be ticketed for riding on the sidewalk.

exactly, its illegal to ride on the sidewalk here as well.

biyclists will generally stay on the shoulder and out of the way. If it is a particularly dangerous road, you proably wont see them on it.

You are allowed to pass a bicyclist, just dont do it at an unsafe distance.

Its funny, most cagers think that they have some more entitlement to the road or something, and see bicyclists as encrouching on thier turf, when in fact, the bicyclist is just as entitled to use the road, and in fact, would be breaking the law if they werent!

I've bicycled across a good portion of this country, and its amazing how many people are uninformed on this subject. Share the god damned road! It doesnt belong to you only!

I believe there are also laws about minimum speeds for a given speed limit In Florida, they have them posted to remind grandma in her Deville that 32mph in a 55 zone with the blinker on for 12 miles is unacceptable.

if you can ride the legal speed limit (or even close to it), by all means, bike on the road, but if you cant keep up with traffic, you need to find a lower speed limit place to ride. its not Lance Armstrong or others like him that i am opposed to riding on the road, but 45 year old overweight man in sweat suit riding in the middle of the lane at 14mph is causing me some concern. i have nothign against bikes. i myself mountain bike a little, but i dont think its fair for bicyclists to expect cagers to watch out for them, even motorcycle riders dont get that privledge.

nope, no speed minimums on those roads. Only highways and such that have a 45 mph minimum speed posted. Simple safely pass people slower then you, and share the road.
the arguement the cars shouldnt have to "watch out" for other people using the road is rediculous.

Yeah, there is a bunch of agression in the world, some of it the passive variety... when you get stuck behind a passive agressive "I'm gonna show the world" type it is frustrating. However, bicycles aren't just a toy to some people. When I lived in a city I bicycled all the time... rode to work, rode to stores... my car was reserved for cases where speed, cargo, or distance were a factor.
