but no matter what you do, it's still a 250.
and its still awesome.
Agreed.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

thats a fun little bike, i jsut got a 2006 yellow 250R and i am loving it. it accelerates faster than any cars im facing in traffic but i dont have to worry about roll on power wheelies while i am still learning to ride. its to light i can throw it around pretty easy. i have recently fallen in love with the hooks on the back for carying stuff with a bungee. i find the overall ride to be very comfortable. we want some pics when you get the bike.

congrats and happy bike day.

you didnt do too bad either, check out cycletrader sometime. people selling used 250's with thousands of miles for more then MSRP of a new one.

There are some cool streetfighterized ninja 250s...

IMO, they look somewhat nighthawkish... the plastic under the seat is what does it I think. Not bad though. I briefly considered preemptively streetfightering my ninja... but decided I'd have more fun with "low key" customization.

This is just the first photo I could find, lifted from another site...

Very nice, but I wonder what they had to go through to get it to look like that. I'd like to see a Ninja just without the fairings, to compare what kind of work it would take to get it naked.

Problem is that the headlight, instrument cluster, mirrors, turn signals, etc are all mounted to the fairings.... so to legally ride on the street without the fairings takes a fair amount of work, and perhaps $250 worth of aftermarket gear if you want to do a good job.
