I hate to say it but most bicycle riders have this arrogant attitude that THEY own the road and everyone else is just borrowing it from them. Well, here's a news flash for ya, CARS ARE BIGGER AND FASTER THAN YOU! If your stupid enough to think your 12lb bike going 27mph should rule the road then prepare to get smacked!

I ride a bicycle on the road, and I usually don't have a problem with the cages. Around here, cycling is so popular that the cagers have gotten used to seeing cyclists on the road and know how to safely pass. I suspect there's more of a problem in redneck areas where the good 'ol boys in their pickup trucks just can't abide by them faggy cyclists in their gay lycra outfits.

Wow! So much hostility. I'm with -holiday. I have a car and a motorcycle which means I also pay dearly for those luxuries. When I cycle there is no noise pollution or air pollution and I get the benefit of some exercise.

I try to ride on roads that are designated bike routes but sometimes there is no bike route where I need to go. I follow the rules of the road and try to stay out of the way as much as possible.

It is also illegal here to ride on the sidewalk. It's not the end of the world to have to slow down a bit until you can safely pass.

I do agree that some cyclists are just jerks. It is unfortunate that they give the rest of us a bad reputation.

The next time you see a cyclist pedalling home after work, try to show some courtesy and just move over a few feet to pass. You can move back after you pass them.
It's not that hard to do.

I, at no point, said anything about other vehicles or taxes so please discontinue that argument as it holds no weight. If you owned 10 cars and/or motorcycles you would have to pay registration and insurance for EACH vehicle, effectively paying for them to be on the road.
To ride a bicycle on the road (once again for those in the cheap seats, regardless of how many other vehicles you own) you only need said bicycle. No registration, no insurance and no requirement to be aware of the road rules (or abide by them, it seems).


Also, if you would like to continue the insults little man, bring it on.

Some people HAVE to ride ride bicycles for transportation, I did until I got my motorcycle recently. But I always rode on the sidewalks if there were any. I don't care if it is illegal, I've never heard of a cop ticketing a kid for riding his bicycle on a sidewalk. I got it by a car and had to go to the hospital while riding my bike in a PARKING LOT, there's no way I'd be riding on the street.

The whole bicycles-should-ride-on-the-street-with-cars-and-trucks law is completely outdated. That law might have worked in the '20s when cars weren't as common, and didn't go nearly as fast, but it doesn't any more.

A bicycle on the street, and a little two lane rode will hold up too much traffic, it doesn't make sense. Just because you bicycle only goes 15mph, doesn't mean you should make everyone behind you have to drive at 15mph.

I know what Basshole is talking about... in Orange County California (not widely considered a redneck area LOL) and surrounding areas there are roving packs of bike-idjots wearing spandex and riding bicycles that cost more than many of your motorcycles. They are crappy riders who can barely follow a straight track and don't understand drafting but they've got the best carbon-fiber 21 speed bicycles and cycling outfits with more logos than an Icon jacket.

Those bicyclists cause EXACTLY the problems the crusier crowd causes on two-lane highways. I've been stuck behind packs of twenty kawasakis/harleys/whatever riding their staggered formation at 1MPH below the speed limit and trailing 100 cars all itching to pass but blocked. It's the same problem... the "Donut Holes" are so self-centered in their "I'm riding a $15K motorcycle so the world can "procreating" wait for me" way that they drive people like Basshole into a homicidal rage...if he isn't one of them, anyway.

If someone pays taxes - they are paying for the roads. Let's just say they DON'T own a car, truck, motorcycle, etc. Portions of their taxes (income, sales) go to roads in one way or another. Just like portions of my taxes go to pay for schools, even though I don't have kids in school.

I prefer Chee-tos!! Dude you need to get a thicker skin and you'll need it when you ride you bicycle in traffic lanes and some 17 year old kid in 4 x 4 comes along and flattens you like well...a DORITO! because you wanna be macho and arrogant rather than sensible and prudent.
