Cheap Motorcycle Friends

#1 Post by MotoF150 » Wed May 10, 2006 11:33 pm

I have a problem with 2 guys I go riding with. When we stop for gas or food, they always expect me to pay. When I need to stop for gas they always pull next to me by the pump when im done filling up my tank they grap the nozzle off of me and fill their bikes up and I end up paying for everybodys gas, they make an excuse they don't have a credit card like I use for the pay at the pump. The way I correct this is I always fill up before I meet them and go riding so I never have to stop for gas, but one time one of the guys I was riding with his low fuel light came on so we went with him to the nearest gas station, he filled his bike up $11, but he only had $5 cash, so I had to lend him money, all I had was a $20, so he used that to pay, after paying he never gave me back the change, I had to ask him for the change, so he gave me $5 back, I told him I expected $14 back since he already had $5, so he got mad and called me cheap, but the reason I wanted the $14 cause I knew he would never pay me back anyhow, so I wanted the most back I could get at the time. Then one day we stopped at ice cream stand everybody said they were just thirsty so everybody gabbed a 75 cents carton of iced tea, so being the nice guy I figured I could pay for 3 iced teas and I offered to pay, so then both of the guys ordered food and ice cream and the bill jumped up to almost $20. They both know im the guy that has the big money, im not cheap, but im tired of being taken advantage of.

Man. Sounds like you need a new group of riding buddies. Start leaving your cc at home and bring just enough cash for you. Or just tell them your not paying anymore.
A dog had his chain reduced one link at a time, every few days, until his chain was so short he could barely move. He never resisted because he was conditioned to the loss of his freedom slowly, over time. Are we in this country becoming like the dog?

It really is simple - if they are true friends, this shouldn't even be an issue. They can only take advantage of you to the degree that you allow. Make a choice... if they view you as being the bad guy for not floating them along in life, then they're not the best sorts of character anyway. Good luck!!

Cheers,

Sheeee-IT! I woulda looked at the guy like he was an idiot, cause he was. Why would anyone pump more gas than they had money to pay for? It was his problem, but you let it become yours...

Get some new friends, cause these guys are just sponges. Tell them before you meet up next time, that "The bank of Moto" is CLOSED.

You could go inside and pay ahead for your usual amount of gas. Then the pump will shut off before they can get any... might work.

with true friends it's all even. these guys aren't friends, they are leeches.

i make almost double what one of my buddies makes and whenever we go out, for supper or whatever, sometimes i pay, sometimes he does, sometimes we split it etc. but there is the knowledge that it all evens out, or close enough that we don't care.

unless these two are doing something for you other than riding with you, like fixing your bike or painting your house or something, i'd just find new guys to ride with.

LOL... somehow I'm not surprised.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

They'll only take advantage of you if you let them. Be firm or find some new riding buddies.
