changing ninja 250 oil?

my new bike has 100 miles on it. should i change the oil? i found instructions on how to do it already, but there is some debate as to if i need to do it or not.

its a 2006 ninja 250R.
50% of that milage was in my neighborhood (very big neighborhood with lots of hills) at about 20-35mph. the other half was backroads at about 35-50mph.

money isnt a thing, i'll pay for the oil and filter but is it worth it?

Why would you change the oil after 100 miles? Whats it say in the manual?

Many people argue that you should change a new engine's oil at 50, 100, 250, and 500 mile intervals or some varient on that theme. Yeah, they are ana neurotics... but that's what they argue.

It won't hurt.

It could theoretically help by removing tiny metal fragments thta collect in break-in oil from the engine.

I'm not doing it on mine.

MOM says first one at 600 miles. but i know there is metal pieces in the oil from break in, i dont want to change it every 50 miles, but i would think metal in oil = bad thing? but thats why im asking, because i dont know for sure.

Oil filter will pick up most of the fragments. What does the oil look like in the sight glass? Mine is clean after 270 miles.

My manual says 800 km/500 mi.

i have seen magnetic oil plugs for cars, do they make those for bikes, and is the metal being shaved off even magnetic? maybe i'll invent something?

thanks for all your helps. maybe i'll change it at 200 or 250 miles.

I would just change it when the manual sugests (did I spell that right? I'm a little out of it) it, the manual will be overly careful, because they'd rather you pay to have the oil changed after 600 miles, then have you wait, kill you engine, and make them fix it under warranty.

silly question, but does your warranty state that your initial services should be done by a certified Kawasaki mechanic? not sure they could void a warranty for not doing the services with their certified guys, but with some products, once you start doing things yourself, you add the "this guy might be inept" variable that the dealer could hold over you...overfill underfill, filter not seated and problem occurs...they try to do it with computers, but that never stops me, not sure if it's that way with bikes since i've only bought used /shrug

In the USA we've got the Magnuson-Moss act which bars "tie in sales"... manufacturers can't require you buy their brand parts or use their service department for maintenance.
