Summer Gear/Nurburgring

Hi all! :D

I'm off to the Nurburgring in Germany at the end of June - anybody been?

http://nurburgring.org.uk/index.html

I'm also wondering about jackets for the summer - as I've ridden through the winter I've yet to experience sweltering sun whilst riding! 8)

Are there any recommendations for summer jackets - I'm after *probably* a textile one, as I'm assuming these have the ability to be cooler than leather? Is this right, or not neccessarily... I'm after any colour other than black to be honest, black seems a bit punishishing in the sunshine :?

Henriettaah!!!

I was wondering where you'd disappeared to

Riding in Leather wasn't so bad last year, it's not like summer lasts more than five minutes!!!! :)

Last year I wore one of these beneath a Denim jacket:

I felt protected and fairly cool :)

But even full leather wasn't too bad, I had the zip down slightly and wind flow kept me chilled.

Doesn't riding with the zip down compromise on the protection offered by the jacket if it comes into contact with the road?

I only had it down a couple of inches, so I was fairly confident in it and a couple of inches can make all the difference.

The body armour from the above auction is always fully done up so the pads stay in the right place if I make contact with the road.

some of the leather jackets out there have perforated sections and vents that you can open up to provide airflow without compromising safety...or at least it's an almost miniscule compromise...might just have to shop around your area, but here in Canada, Joe Rockets has some decent leather jackets or textile jackets.

I wouldn't go out on the ring in anything less than race leathers.

Even if your not going that fast there will be cars and other bikes that are absolutely flying around there.

When you get to Germany head to Real. You will probably have to try a couple stores but they sell a textile riding jacket that is great. It has built in reflective tape on the arms, back and some on the front. Also it has vents under the arms and a liner for when it gets cold. Price was pretty reasonable too - about 100 Euro.

When I get my bike back that is going to be my primary riding jacket.
