1000cc Sport Bike as a first motorcycle?
Most people seem to have something against the supersport category as a beginer bike, and I can see where you're coming from. How about something along the lines of a Kawasaki 650R or a Yamaha FZ6? Those seem to have a 600cc engine with plenty of power but also have a stance that is more rider friendly and weigh a little more so they wont be as razor sharp on the take off.

i weigh 240ish and had to ride "the small bike" the other night (ninja 250). i normally ride a 750 shadow and let me tell you, i felt like i had plenty of power with the 250. i had it up to 100Kph easily and had more room to go if i needed to.
if a "small" bike like that ninja can haul me around at speed, it should be fine for pretty much anyone...especially to learn on.
P.S. bought the ninja for a good price and have 3 people who want to buy it from me next spring...for the same price i paid so i will lose ZERO money on this bike when it is time for the fiance to trade up

Thanks TechBMW! That was a great thread. I really apreciate all the help. I did alot of research and found that it's probably a good idea for me to go with something along the lines of a Ninja 250R. I called up a local MSF course place and heard that they teach on 250s which probably means something. Well thanks again for all the help and good riding to all of you!

I've been looking for that post forever! I wonder why I never thought to look in that section. Honestly, I think it should be moved from the Safety and Security section and put in the New Riders section, as this is where most new guys come.TechBMW wrote:viewtopic.php?t=583 <---- Read that Please.

Ditto! I spent a lot of time yesterday looking for that, didn't think of the Safety section. Can it please be moved to New Riders?kabob983 wrote:I've been looking for that post forever!
