Soju is ~24% alcohol (360ml = ~$1) -- it's actually not really made from rice, but usually from sweet potato, and is, I believe, distilled. There are other 'rice beers' (Makgoli, dong-dong-ju) that are fermented...
Yes, you can still go to the soju tent and get sloshed. fun times! (just don't ride there... )
Gas? 1550 won/liter = ~$1.60/liter * 4 (liters per gallon[?]) = $6.40/gallon. Lots! My bike gets pretty good milage. That, and Korea is a small country. It's actually not so bad... it's worse if you drive a big car. People pay $70 on average to fill up their mid-size cars. If you compare that to GDP per capita, it's really quite expensive.
Bike theft is only a problem for the smaller bikes that the high-schoolers ride (my first bike was stolen). The bigger bikes are heavier and harder to steal...
Yeah - right-of-way. The 'law of the road' is the only law you need to know. Relsek - you got it right. As a motorbike, you have to keep an eye out on and yeild to cars, generally... but it's not so bad in practice, there are lots of ways around cars if you're motivated enough...
Bikes here most definitely do not outnumber bikes. There really aren't all that many, actually. All the delivery (pizza, chicken, etc.) gets done on scooters though - so you see lots of those buzzing around.
Keep the questions coming!

Can we get some pictures of the roads/landscape around there? I'm really interested to see what it is like where you ride.
I had a Hyosung GV250, it was a great bike. Are you planning on getting the GT650 or the GV650?
Also, how is the road quality over there? Are they maintained pretty well? or is it pretty rough?

Soju Tent..
Picture a little wagon about the size of a picnic table with a rectangular tent over it, usually orange when I was there. Usually an older woman will pull the tent up and park it on the side of the street, she'll stand on one side and prepare whatever food she has, people will sit along the other side and eat whatever she prepares. That is where I have tried most of my unknown Koren dishes.

Actually, I just visited a bike shop.... (damn, sometimes all they do is complicate things).DivideOverflow wrote:Can we get some pictures of the roads/landscape around there? I'm really interested to see what it is like where you ride.

They have a 2002 CBR600F4i for $6600 which is in super shape. A brand new Hyosung GT650R is about $6000. Both are super bikes... the problem is that when I get around to finally selling the bike, the Honda will have depreciated far less (since most of the hit has already been taken).
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
All I have to do now is sell my bike.
My friend just got himself a GV650 -- it's a super bike! I mean, wow. It's faster than a V-Rod and it's basically the same shape. Oh, and, over here -- you can buy 4 GV650 for the price of 1 Vrod.

Ah - landscapes, etc. I'll do my best to accomodate you in a day or two. Stay tuned!
