So apparently Ninja 500s are NOT motocross bikes

I was enjoying the twisties near where I live when I decided I would pull a U-turn at the upcoming parking lot and just do the whole thing in reverse.
Problem was it was a gravel lot, to which I thought... no big deal.
And normally it wouldn't have been except I pulled into the exact spot where there was a big dip and bump, meaning, at my speed of 25 mph... AIRTIME!
Didn't faze me until I landed a second later and slid on the gravel causing a low side.
Luckily though I just rolled with the fall and I'm completely unhurt.
The bike snapped a mirror and part of the clutch, but is basically otherwise ok.
Lesson learned.

Yeah, this was just a minor wipeout due to one of my boneheaded ideas.
I'll duct tape the mirror on until my friend can find me a cheap replacement and chalk it up to good for a laugh.

I enjoyed the hell out of it. Forces you to work on line control. Where the cars have been, I shall go.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

You guys have street sweepers?! Around here the county runs bull dozers along the roads.... that gets rid of the big rocks and deep sand/gravel, but they can leave half an inch or more of crap.
That's one of the things that made me nervous about getting a bike... there is a lot of sand and gravel all over all the paved roads...and even more unpaved roads. I got my first practice riding my ninja on sand Saturday, taking it home for the first time.... it will be kinda fun once I have a better handle on it I think.
Still got to be cautious though...there is one turn near my house that gets washed over with sand/gravel/rocks (a layer maybe 3-4 inches thick) whenever it rains.... I've seen 4x4 trucks charge into the turn, turn their wheels, keep going straight, launch the front end, and come down hard enough to fold a front wheel under.

Ride it like you think owning it matters.
