I took my first day of MSF today but 1 Q

If I understand correctly the shift pattern is

1-n-2-3-4-5-6

When im riding and i shift up from first why does it go into second and not neutral? Do I need to be in total stop to go into neutral?

thanks.

If you're in first, it's a half "click" up to get into neutral, and a full "click" up to get into second. Some bikes are a little tricky to get in neutral, for example, my bike is kinda finicky and rarely goes from first to neutral, I usually have to switch into second, then give it a half a "click" down to get into neutral. It is easier to get in neutral if the bike isn't running though.

If one watches carefully, the neutral light on my bike blinks for a split-second as I move the shifter from first to second. Don't know if other bikes do this though...

Honda CG125 and CX500 both show the neutral light as I bang past it.

Occasionally the CX will go to neutral when I'm changing up from first, but its no big deal.

hjahahaaha oh man. I know your confusion and question, when i first started riding, a week before my MSF, i thought, ok 1-n-2-3-4-5-6. so from 1st i clicked 2 times, went into third, and it stalled, rememberde thinking, what the heck? and tryin to figure it out all afternoon stalling the daylights out of the poor little dirtbike i was learning on.

+1

my CX will briefly flash the green light as I shift from 1st to second, it will also pop out of second gear if im accelerating hard and dont hit the shifter firmly enough.

the CX500 has got to be the easiest bike I have ever seen to find neutral on. that half click is very easy to feel and it rarely jumps through neutral into second

1st to second is one solid push up.

1st to neutral is a weak (half) push up.

If you aren't... forcefull enough you'll hit neutral and over rev.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
