No, but it is so not surprising. There has always been a problem with the integrity of the press. Now we have this ridiculous bias to the other side. Just as silly with the ideas they present as the overly liberal media of days gone by. Liberal media has now been limited to NPR and some PBS these days, but that is far from a balanced source as Fox.
The media is still 80% liberal.
We agree to disagree. I think the media is very slanted to the right. Fox of course, but even MSNBC and CNN are very careful about what they say about who in the goverment. AM radio is dominated by conservative talk. Since 9-11 everyone is very careful about what they say. Don't want to help the bad guys. Bias on either side gets under my skin, and I've had a lot of under my skin from the extreme right wing bozos at this time. Maybe that is just me.

Well, I was talking about tv, newspaper, and internet news. I don't listen to the news on the radio, so I don't know about that, but you're probably right, the only thing I can remember is my dad listening to Rush Limboh (sp?) all the time when I was a kid. That 80% liberal statistic is pre-9/11, so it is probably different now, but I'm positive liberal media is still in the majority.

You don't have speed cameras yet? I am sooooooo jealous

There is talk over here about fitting all vehicles with black boxes to record all manner of things, speeding included.

There's no speed cameras per se. There is this thing with EZ-PASS which is an electronic tag that you put in your car to pay tolls with. From that they can tell how long it took you to drive from one toll booth to another. Which can also determine your speed. Speed = Distance / Time
I haven't heard of anyone getting speeding tickets this way yet. But, a person I used to work with did get a warning letter about driving to fast.

Pretty much all cars manufactured in the USA since 2000 have black boxes already. My car's owners manual actually mentions this along with some legal mumble jumble. Saying police can access it blah blah blah. And apperantly I have no say in it. Funny cuz I don't remember signing any contracts giving up my rights when I bought the car.
Basically, it records the most recent 5-10 seconds before a crash. I've heard of at least one case in the USA where this info was used against someone after a crash.

Now before this black box business became public it was a secret. Apperantly, GM was secretly installing black boxes in Corvettes. The Corvette owners found out and brought a class action suit against GM. I do not know what the status of that case is now. Really stupid on GM's part. People who can afford Corvettes prolly have money & will prolly fight this krap in court. GM would've done much better installing those black boxes on lower priced cars.

Seems to me to get around all this krap all the car manufactuers decided to install the black boxes on all models. Then again maybe they were pressured by the govt. Prolly veilled as some effort to "protect the children"

Some source info on the GM black boxes class action suit. It involved 8 different GM models and started in 1999. (previously I said it only involved Corvettes)

Unfortunately, I still don't know the status of this case.

Most of the media is liberal, I hear alot more people bashing conservatives on the news then I do bashing liberals.
I would disagree with that. I don't think a single TV station in the United States is liberal. With the possible exception of PBS & HBO.

Some newspapers are liberal.

CNF2002 wrote:I suppose you are against red light cameras too!
Just to chime in on this one. I said this before, but here it is again.

I'm not against the govt collecting any data it can get its hands on or spying on its citizens. (I would classify red light cameras as spying)
As long as one condition is met.

I as well as all other citizens have access to the same data at all times. I want to know what my elected officials are up to, my judges, and my police.

If they run red lights or their nephews run red lights I want to know. I want that same red light camera in my living room.

Until they can meet this condition I oppose all govt surveillance no matter how small or no matter how many "children it will save" or how many "terrorists(tm)" it will catch.

The 'cameras' are just an extension of law enforcement. If we had a cop on ever corner, you wouldn't mind. But if we have 1 cop watching 50 cameras on every corner, suddenly its a violation of your rights.

I don't get it. If you're driving, and you violate the law, you should be punished. Heck, I wish I could drive around with a camera and send the tape in to the police so they can send a ticket to some of these idiots on the road.

You do not need to be travelling at 80+mph on a 60mph freeway. Sorry, but that kind of dangerous driving has nothing to do with your freedom and everything to do with endangering the safety of others. So many people die from speeding and running red lights. We simply can't afford the manpower to police the situation effectively, and when they finally come up with a solution people freak out about it. People fully defend the right of the press to point a camera anywhere in public just to make a buck, but when the government does it its a violation.

I'm not for black boxes in cars, although I think with the level of trust I have in the average person to be honest, it would help most victims in car accidents.

The cameras are not for the government to get jollys over watching you everyday. They are there on public roads, for the safety of the public.

It dosnt. IIRC the line goes if a government agency is holding data on you its because it needs to. However the data protection act does allow you to ask to see the material, as long as it isnt classified.

The black boxes they are discussing here are always on and constantly uploading the vehicles position and condition.

With ID cards and Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras and ID cards on the agenda to be matched against the National Genetic Database within the next three years we are headed to a total surveilllance society here.
