Gasoline additives

For all of you who only have 91 octane at the pump (like myself) and aren't fortunate enough for the 93 octane, are you able to put additives just as you would in a cage? my bike requires 91 octane as does my cage and every once in a while i'll throw somethin in for the cage....i put this out on my R-6 forum and have gotten no response...i figured you guys would have some input.

your bike requires 91... the pumps deliver 91... what's the problem?

There is no point in higher octane unless the engine is tuned for it.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

I didn't say there was a problem. Just simply asking if anyone has any input on this. 91 is the minimum octane for the bike. If I were to live in parts of the Midwest or the East Coast I would be able to put 93 in the tank.

why would you want to use the wrong fuel for your bike?

can't remember the specifics on it, but basically it boils down to use the fuel the owner's manual says since running a higher octane fuel is basically wasting money due to it not burning properly for your setup.

as for your original question about additives, you aren't particularly specific about what kind of additives...something to boost the octane? fuel system cleaner? etc. etc. if it's to artificially boost the octane, that's probably just wasting money honestly.

Higher octane != higher performance. The only reason to ever use high octane gas is if your engine pings with lower octanes.

Just because high octane gasoline is labeled "Premium" or "Super" does not mean it's better in any way for engines that do not require it. It's just a waste of money.

I'm not looking to go out and add this stuff to my bike. I'm just new to the bike world and am curious on any similarities with bikes and cages.
i know a little bit about the purpose of the additives. I am just seeing if you guys have used them.

Higher levels of octane make fuel less combustable which in turn can make for a more even burn of fuel. SLIGHTLY higher levels will increase performance and fuel economy. It can also help to prevent knock as well. Most of the over the counter stuff doesn't even add a full point raised on your octane level.

I used to have a forced induction cage and when i went to the track would put race gas (107) octane for the high compression i was running.

just tryin to find out some info and most of you guys have been riding for years so i figure you know tons more than me.....for now at least!!!

this internet connection is horrible. I just now found all the replies you guys have put on this and my last post basically sums up what you guys are sayin.

so thanks! yeah, my bike is stock except for a slip on and is still at the same compression as stock.

i am registered to a forum specific for my bike...but you can post something there and wont hear anything for a week. here, i get all the info imagineable. thanks guys/ladies.

Mine calls for 91. I cant get 91.

It goes 87, 89, 93. Whats up with that?

Cuz you are one of the lucky ones! 91 and 93 are not significantly different. if it went from 89 to 103 or somethin...but 93 is cool. you would probably notice a difference in gas mileage if you went to 91.
