need help

#1 Unread post by firepisser8104 »

sorry i posted this in a different forum and this is where it should be so heres the oringinal

I have an 1980 CX500 custom. I had it stored and my buddy who rode it last and put it away put it away , left the tank on gas 1/4 full. Went to get it and it wouldnt run. replaced the plugs, cleaned the carbs, and drained the fuel and replaced with new gas. I did all that and it would rev up. I give it gas and it would just die. so i tore the carbs the apart again and recleaned the jets. Put it all back together again, and started it up gave it gas and it died. I started adjusting the air/fuel adjustment screws and now it'll let me give it gas, but it'll bog down then race up. if i take it for a ride it'll studder then race away. Any ideas as what i am doing wrong or how to adjust the carbs better?? I cant figure it out and want to get out and ride so i can save gas money. thank you in advance for your help........ the air filter is new and box is clean in case your wondering. Plugs are gapped as well. thank you

You need a carb synch tool to adjust them properly, otherwise you'll just be endlessly fiddling with them. A manometer is the best way to do it and the most accurate, you can make your own and save the cost of buying one. Here's a couple of sites that will help:
http://www.powerchutes.com/manometer.asp
http://www.gis.net/~manjo/FAQMiscel.htm ... g%20Carbs:

Or you could just take the bike to a reputable shop and have them do it. Either way, you need to properly tune and balance the carbs if you ever want the bike to run right.

as soon as i get the new rebuild kit and put the carbs back in again, i will try to adjust them to be equal. I dont know much about carbs other than how to rebuild them. So i may have to take it to the shop to get fine tuned unless i can find someone to help me. thanks for the links to the carb tuners

OK i rebuilt the carbs and it runs awsome .....well till it hits 4000rpms, then it pops and drags. When ridding it bogs down at 4200rpms, what do i need to adjust now and how?? Its starts great and ides well, first 4000 prms are fast then it just bogs. i must have lapped the block 30 times adjusting the air idle screws, but if thats the problem i keep trying it. Any ideas? i cant figure it out. It has new plugs and i checked the gapping the other day but could they be wrong? well thanks for the help in advance.
