Transport Canada is the main culpret. They insist on ludicrous testing to vague standards that even prevents a few very nice bikes from being imported at all. The testing is expensive and it is reflected in every new model that you buy. The system needs an overhaul. There was a good artical in Cycle Canada a couple of years ago.
My wifes Ducati listed for about 40% higher in Canada than it did in the States. I was going to bring one in myself but the taxes and duties would have sucked the fun right out of that idea. Any bike over 15 y.o. you can bring in tax free however...

Which is why you haven't seen Moto-Guzzi for awhile. (B*stards, I really liked that California and Stone models.) And yet the Ural is imported here with only a few minor differences from the American version. Go figure. :roll:
