Putting on new turn signal indicators

Hey all,

I am putting new rear turn signals on my Suzuki GS650L. The new ones have a little quick connect type metal peice on them. They only have a bout six or eight inches of wire. The old ones have the wire running all the way up to a connection right around the battery or some such place.

Is it OK to cut the wires and just splice them together and wrap them up in electrical tape?

Any other advice to get these on since the wire connections are nowhere near each other?

If you want to remove them again any time soon it would be better to install a connector on your original indicator wires compatible with the new ones. Otherwise you should cut the connector as you said and join the wires directly but you would be much better off soldering them and applying some heatshrink over the join to avoid problems further on.

yeah, it would be best to use quick connects to do it so you can take it apart whenever you want. i agree with using the heat shrink too, it should really help keep therefrom being any problems, but you really could do just the electrical tape. i have done it on my bike and it seems to work fine thus far.

Check out the Posi-tite connectors here - They are waterproof - good for an app like those turn signal wires where the wires are hangin out in the open.
