Hello from Northern Virginia

Hello all. I got my bike Ninja 250 about a week ago. I have ridden about 200 miles so far... And I absolutely love the bike. It has just right amount of power for city traffic. And bummer I got a flat tire due to a cosntruction nail getting lodged into my tire. I called up all local shops, no one has any in stock. So it'll take me about a week to get new tire and get going again. The weather just turned sunny after a week of cloudy and rainy weather here, and I am unable to ride

So I just thought I'll say hello to everyone in this forum. I have been a regular lurker.

Hope they get your tire in sooner. I know the frustration of not being able to ride when the weather is good. Rode in rainy/cold stuff for the first 4 days I got my bike. It's supposed to get into the 70's today and, here I sit at work for 24 hours staring at my motorcycle sitting in an empty bay in the ambulance garage....

Welcome, Vikram! I lived in Sterling and Leesburg for a few years back in the 1990s. Hope you get your tire fixed soon!

Question, would no Vulcanizing shops be able to repair a nail flat? unless the tire damage was to the side wall they should be able to patch and plug. (going by my cage tires, I could be wrong)

I have called up lot of places, but no one would plug/patch a motorcycle tire. I guess for liability reasons . A car has four tires, if one blows up there are 3 left. But a motorcycle has only two and a blow up on either one could be very dangerous .

Anyway I got the flat repair kit and plugged it myself. I know it's a temporary solution. Call me impatient or stupid .. but I could wait no longer..

It held up well so far.

I can see their reasoning, Im not sure how others feel about it, but I say, if your comfortable with the fix it yourself, then hey, power to you. (although, dont use flat fix ina can, that peeves the techs off to no end)
and get that tire changed ASAP. in the mean time, have fun!

I got a nail in my tire last year so I had a tube put in . Now I am about to get new tires front and rear .

Techs hate the canned air or flat fix stuff because the accelerant that forces it out of the can is flammable and explosive. It can cause the tire to explode when you run the hole reemer through the opening and it sparks against the steel belt of the tire.

My cousin nearly died fixing a simple flat tire. It was a slow leak and the guy kept puting "Fix-a-Flat" in it including a few minutes prior to stopping to have it repaired. The explosion was heard up to 5 miles away. In fact, the workers in a factory about 100 yards away from the garage were evacuated from their building because they thought the explosion was there.

Bottom line; If you feel you need to use it, ALWAYS tell the technician that is going to work on it. If you're going to work on it, empty the air out of the tire, refill it with compressed air, repeat and finally refill to purge the accelerant.

Hey, I live in Herndon VA and I am a newbie. Just wanted to know where you get your tires from? I want to by a new front and rear one. I haven't really known anywhere in NOVA to go to for bikes, this one being my first and all.
