93 Nighthawk 750 Idling too High

So its almost impossible for me to downshift to 1st unless I'm completely stopped.... she Idles at about 1100 and I start to jerk unless im going like 5mph or stopped... I was told by some friends I can adjust this? Does anybody know how? Or even better yet can link me to the manual?

I think the idle adjuster is located at the back middle of the carbs. It should be a knurled thumb adjuster screw. Turn it in to raise idle, Out to lower. I wouldn't set it too much lower. 900 - 1000RPM's should be right.

Thanks... I'll look at it in the morning..... Don't get me wrong I love the bike but downshifting sucks, I got to stay in 2nd for 10mph + although when I pull my throttle all the way back it goes down... It is possible throttle sticks as well... gotta look at it this weekend... just got her back from the shop on saturday and been riding to work all week.

Check the shifter linkage. Rust/corrosion around the shift lever pivot bolt can cause issues.
And if the lever bolts right to the shift shaft, disregard. I see so many different models everyday, can't keep track of what has what.

Idle speed: 1000 RPM +/- 100 (From Factory Service Manual)

1100 RPM is within spec.

I go along with the other poster and check shifter.

Also, check clutch. If the clutch isn't fully disengaging, the shift from Neutral to 1st is harder.

I'm with mydlyfkryzis. Idle is not your problem. Mine has always been dead on at 1100 rpm and that works fine.

I'm really not sure about your problem from the description. My bike won't downshift into 1st unless I'm going slow either (around 15 mph or less). I've always considered that to be normal.
