Advice from a salesman...

#1 Unread post by brentf13 »

I don't have a jacket so i'm shopping for one - was going to get a textile because it's almost summer - sales man advised me that since it's my first jacket i should get a well vented leather one instead of textile - says that leather jacket should be the main one - opinions please

Thanks

It should depend on what you like and whether it is comfortable or not. Just remember it has to be snug that way the armor doesn't flap around.

I currently still wear my leather jacket without the liner. I have a Joe Rocket textile but that makes me look like a space man of sorts. Protection of both is around the same unless comparing with a mesh jacket.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

The best jacket is the one that you will wear. Buy one that is comfortable and you think looks good. Armored is better, as it has impact as well as abrasion resistance. Make sure that if you get a textile that it has at least 600 denier. Other then that, just wear it.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Well, leather offers the best protection, but it is expensive. Textiles are fine jackets and offer very high degrees of protection.

What ever is fitting and comfy and within your budget. I, personally, bought just a plain leather motorcycle jacket that was in my budget. It fits, its comfy, doesn't have armor or anything but I don't worry about that myself. My wife has a nice textile jacket that is well fitting and comfy for her. Kinda whatever works for ya. As long as you wear it.
