Dissed due to my ride for the first time

I'm leaving early this morning, to enjoy the sunshine, and no traffic when I run into my new neighbor hauling his furniture up. After spending a few minutes introducing myself and shooting the breeze he asks about what kind of bike I have, since I'm dressed in full gear. I start to say Honda ...., and never get that point as he repeats "Honda!? Ahahahahaha, well its okay you can move onto a real bike soon."

What a goof. Considering we're going to be neighbors, I didn't say much other than it's nice out I'm going to get going. This should be fun for the next couple months, I wonder if he rides though.

I get men coming over to me and my bike all the time. They see the bike and think it's a Harley, but then they close to see the words Yamaha and usually make some stupid comment such as, "I thought it was a Harley...It looks like one".
Then my response is, "No, it's prettier than a Harley."

...and it sounds better, too.

Your neighbour sounds like a lot of the people I work with. "Gee, I sure like your bike". "If only it didn't say Yamaha on it."

Ohhhh Man !!! I get the same thing all the time from Harley Guys, they use the remarks "Rice Burner" and some other remarks I can't say. I always tell the Harley Guys what makes a Harley and a Hoover Vacuum Cleaner simular? Cause they both s*ck and they have an old bag on the back. ha ha ha ha

Since your neighbor is such an expert on "real" bikes, offer to take him to a track day. His real bike would obviously be able to show up your bike so he has nothing to worry about.

Then spend the next 12 months gloating how your "fake" bike scared him away from the track.

This approach is based off my experiences with people like that. Start throwing down with timed events and suddenly all their machoism becomes scarce.

Ha! I have one to counter your neighbor's remark. I just came back from a jaunt on 211 near skyline drive in Virginia. While I'm going through the twisties I can see a bike is behind me. I'm passing cars while going up and down the mountain as I go along. I see a souviner shop so I pull into the parking lot to catch a breath. The biker that was behind me pulls up next to me and we begin to talk. He's like, "At first I thought your bike was a Haley when I came up behind you, but then you started taking those corners and I knew it couldn't be! The other tip off was your pipes since I've never seen a Harley with pipes like that" Well we're just shooting the breeze and I tell him I've only been riding about a month. He gives me the biggest compliment by telling me that on some of the turns he was having a hard time keeping up. The best part is, he's riding a BMW 1150R. Well I go looking for gas and he says he's going to go back up the mountain again and we part ways.

On the way back up the mountain I pull into the slow lane and let 3 Harley guys go past me. I must say I had to use the BRAKES a lot more following those guys

yeah those magnas are great bikes. the comfort of a cruiser with the performance of a standard.

My wifes harley riding cousin gives me the "so when are you going to get a real bike" line regularly. I try not to remind her of the fact that she has more problems with her 3 year old HD than I have with my 26 year old Honda.

naw this wouldnt work, the harley guys claim they dont ride for speed

What a dick.

I was at my girlfriends house for her graduation today, and one of her uncles who was visiting had a Harley Dyna-Glide. He wouldn't even give it a second look, or make any conversation about it because it wasn't a Harley. He did have the nerve though to ask me where the nearest harley shop was.

I generally have my own attitudes to counter peeps like that . Suffice it to say , I am sorry that happens to you folks . Just remember to consider the source . I call it the tiny penile syndrome .
