Mirrored vs. Tinted face shields

#1 Unread post by kabob983 »

I assume that the benfit of the mirror finish is to reflect some of the glare out of your eyes. What do you all prefer? A mirror finish or just a tint? If just a tint, how dark?

Mirror finishes are just for looks plus they scratch easily so I stick with tinted.

There's no benefit? Well that stinks. I figured that somehow someway there'd be some glare reflecting benefit to a mirrored shield. I'm not looking for any bling!

Mirror finish just for looks? Hmm I wasn't aware of that...I use one and I don't get any glare...Haven't used tinted so I couldn't compare the two...Very true that the mirrored scratch easy...sux.

I haven't researched the physics. But I get little to no glare with my mirrored shield. I have used many tinted shields and those seemed to get much more glare than the mirrored.

No glare here, and I use a light tint visor. I'm basically convinced the difference is purely aesthetical.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Getting mixed ideas here, although it seems that those who think there is no difference have more "real world" experience (I could be wrong though). I suppose the benefit (or downside) to a mirror is that if the sun hits it you can blind the guy in front of you who looks in his rear view mirror!

The mirror finish isnt just for looks, its so you can look at yourself and fix your helmet hair when you get there.
