Okay, I'm writing a story and basic knowledge about firearms is a must but I haven't been able to find anything useful on the internet (I must be a bit dumb l ). What I'm in need of is a picture which shows clearly the parts of a gun and what they're called. Then there's something about the charging. English is not my 1st language so I don't know if I get this right or not, but I heard the guy checking his new gun out ask : mercurate charge watever ). I didn't even know the word but from the way he pronouned it, I think it's "mercury". I need to know the difference between those.

Now that's what I'm talking about Thanks a lot. I've been looking everywhere for that diagram... As for the mercury, I think it's what that guy was saying but I still haven't had a clear picture of how it works inside a gun . Anyway, you've been a great help. Thank you soooooooooo much

Keep in mind, thats a general diagram, not every gun will have all of those, but most of them. A couple things that arent mentioned there, is the magazine. It holds the ammunition, NOT a CLIP. It's a magazine. A Clip is different.

Also, the chamber is under the ejection port. It's where the bullet and casing sits until fired. The firing pin, which is inside the slide, makes contact with the primer on the bullet. The bullet is sent down the "bore" (or inside of the barrel, terms such as "Bore is like new" means barrel/rifling) and the spent casing is ejected through the ejection port. Im sure this is a lot to take in, but if you have any other questions I have many answers.

This country was built on private ownership of guns. Everyone should exercise their 2nd ammendment right at some point or another. Do you trust the government to protect you and your family, or yourself as your own sworn duty?
I'll take my own protection into my own hands. Not to start a debate or anything here.

I am in the Air Force and have been for the last 9 years. In the next 60 days I will be removed from the service because of a illness I recieved defending the USA.

Missed expert on the M-16 by one shot. I understand guns and I think everyone should understand the proper use of them.

I love the AR-15 rifles. I have built many, from Vietnam era M16 clones (semi auto of course! Colt SP's with triangular handguards, with and without teardrop forward assists), to the M4gery, civilian copies of the Military M4. Only missing the 3rd selection

I dont really care for the 5.56/.223 round as much as I do the 7.62x51/.308 (M14), but they are fun plinkers, and most people look at them and think that its illegal for civilian ownership...I love it. Anyways, enough ramblings.

Clip

A clip is a device pushed into the magazine of a firearm to load it in one action. A clip-loading weapon needs the clip for proper operation; one cannot load it with loose cartridges. The Garand exemplifies a clip-loading weapon: see the image of an M-1 Garand clip below. Contrary to the common misconception, a clip is different from a magazine.

A magazine is an ammunition storage device within or attached to a firearm. The magazine may be integral to the firearm (fixed) or removable (detachable).
