leaned forward a little bit is perfectly fine. Remember a sportbike typically has you leaned forward a lot. Most modern standards have you leaned forward a little.
heels hitting mufflers? are your pegs adjustable at all?

Leaning slightly foreward is perfectly fine yes... but what's the point of ownership without control?
You gotta remember, my other candidate bikes were the KLR650, V-Strom 650, etc... I like the "broomstick up..." posture... just the posture mind you.

Good question. I keep my toes on the pegs at all times unless I need to shift or know that I will need to shift in the immediate future (like coming off a roundabout or a junction, or going into a tight corner). I've never felt the need to keep the gear lever covered over an extended period, in town or anywhere else. And it's never been a problem.
Maybe it is easier on a twin. I'm quite lazy with the gears. There is so little difference between them as far as acceleration is concerned (the SV pulls well in any gear, at any revs and at almost any speed) that I'm often unsure exactly what gear I'm in. With a tiny bit of help from the clutch I've even ridden off from standing in fourth.

lol... the 250 ninjas are a bit different. You can get it rolling in 2nd if you know you are in second, but much beyond that you'd better be in the right gear.
The best foot position IMO is balls of feet on pegs... but I after an hour or without doing anything I want to reposition my feet a bit.
Maybe I should get highway pegs.

I ride crosslegged, difficult at stops but my balance is improving every time I fall. Keep the engine in 2nd and just keep it revved a bit for traffic.

Seriously though, the only time I ride cross-legged is when I really gotta go BAD. In that case, balance is no problem 'cause I ain't gunna stop -- heck, I ain't gunna drop below 80 even -- for nuthin!

side saddle would be much more girly than cross legged, and wouldnt cool off the boys as well on the hot days. (The avatar is my girlfriend reluctantly posing on my bike after 15min of begging and pleading, shes camera shy)

you dont do yoga? it helps keep you in shape and limber and strong. I dont think its metro to do yoga, do you have any idea how many position ideas you get from that stuff? plus the core strength and balance to be "the man" when its time to show off the manliness....
Plus yoga allows you to learn to channel testosterone induced stupidity better, keeps ya being a man instead of an idiot.
that being said, many have accused me of being metro, I'm ok with that, I'm comfortable with my masculanity (sp) and its fun to mess with people sometimes. Plus, my girlfriend will tell you I am straight, my best friend might not though..... (JK!!)

No yoga for me. However, I have adopted the yoga "energy" hand position on my motorcycle grips...
Thumbs outward, index and ring fingers on the levers, middle finger upturned and meeting the thumb around the grip.
I find it very affirming.
