This may sound a little strange, but does anyone else hear what sounds like a fly buzzing around whenever they visit this page?

$6800 US would be about $7700-7800 Cdn funds these days.

Posthumane - good luck with getting the deal all wrapped up

Thanks for those links Sev, that's pretty much what I was thinking of. I'll probably wait a while before I start getting accessories for the bike cuz I don't want to get "upgrade fever", but those are definitely going to be high on the list. Perhaps I'll see you at the next alberta TMW get together (missed the last one), and we can compare bikes.

earwig - I'm talking 6000 canuck bucks here. The conversion itself doesn't make it that much cheaper, but the bike market here is a bit different, and prices are disproportionately higher. I think a new honda 599 would run be about $9k at a stealership, and this one has decenlty low kms and is in very good shape, almost a new bike.

Yeh, sorry, right after I posted that I checked out where you are from and put in an "EDIT" :)

Indeed mine set me back $8990 out the door when I bought it, and that's for the less popular (but more common) yellow color. So $6000 for a nearly new one is a great deal. It's kind of nice falling in love with a non-popular bike as the used ones are far cheaper, but at the same time, you'll end up paying more in the long run to pull accessories across the ocean.

Stuff that fits your bike

I highly recomend THIS windscreen. Though you need 4 hands to fit it. It does a great job of keeping the wind above your chin (where a helmet takes care of it) looks stylish (to me) and goes well with the lines of the bike.

*Edit* LoL, I just wend back and checked, you have that windscreen fitted already. Good on the previous owner, it's WELL worth having. I wonder if he was a nest member?

I am not trying to rain on your parade but you can pick up a brand new 2006 for about $6800...

EDIT: this is USA money... not sure how the conversion works out.
a brand new 2006 599 is 9200 MSRP, I think 6000 is a good deal.

You may want to check out TJs if it really is a top box that you are after. I remember seeing one on the shelf there a few weeks ago and it was relatively cheap.
I went the Ventura luggage route on Jens bike. It mounts up very easily, is expandable and you can get optional rain covers. I wouldn't exactly call it cheap but I might be able to work you a deal on an extra rack if you are interested. I bought it off of ebay to find out that it was the wrong width for my bike (it is off of a Busa). It would be possible to mount to any bike if you have access to a torch, a tube bender and possibly a welder...
Here is a look at the one I put on the Duck:

Hey highside, that looks pretty good on there. I'm thinking of going with a hardbox for the throw and go convenience, but I'll wait and see. I think it's probably a good idea to get acquianted with a bike before throwing a bunch of accesories at it.

Looks like you have all the accesories one would need on that page Sev. With all that stuff on there, the 599 could make a pretty nice sport touring rig. I noticed they have a centre stand, which might be a good investment. I hate that a lot of new bikes come without one.

Nice bike your getting. You will be very happy with it, storage issues aside. Enjoy....
