Any time you change the exhaust you SHOULD map the air/fuel mixture to it. It doesn't mean you "have to" do it, it's not like your bike will blow up if you don't, it's just that if you want it to be optimized the remapping needs to be done. Any unrestricted pipe will backfire with the stock map, there's nothing that can be designed about a particular pipe that would keep it from backfiring if it's a straight-through design.
And... many times if you add a new pipe and don't remap you may actually lose power by not optimizing the air/fuel mixture.
