I like the Weestrom (Vstrom 650) for it's lightness if you plan on spending any time off of the pavement (no hard core dirt riding for that bike)
looks hardcore enough for me, not just dirt either...

It's amazing what you can do when you don't realize you're not supposed to be capable of doing it.

I would suggest you check the insurance rates and get a quote before you purchace either bike, many sport-touring bikes are up there at the same insurance price as crotch rockets. For me the insurance rate on the V Strom is $1100 per year, full coverage.

Check out State Farm for sport bikes. Their rates are based on the the no. of cc's.

High_Side wrote:I've toured on a Superhawk for ten years and it really isn't a touring bike at all. It has terrible fuel range and isn't really the most comfortable thing going. I've done it 'cause I love the bike but in the past couple of years I've bought a couple of other bikes to handle the touring end of things.
I've never heard ANYBODY anywhere recommend a Superhwak as touring rig.....

hmmmm... I have a VTR 1000F, and do about 20,000+ kms a year, I have no problem in riding 500-1000kms in a day, so, I guess touring on a superhawk is possible :)

So now ya have heard someone say a superhawk can be a tourer ;)

back in ya box please!!!!

If you read my post you would realize that I do it too....but I sure as hell would not recommend it as a tourer! I've filled that thing up 8 times in one day riding 1100 km. Sure it can be done, but would I recommend it as a tourer? There are better options.

Now crawl back under your box.....

I saw some one selling long rang tanks for the superhawk on Ebay, they have taken an origanl tank and welded a section to the top increasing the capacity to 28 litres, thats an extra 9 which would put its range about 300+ kms. Now thats what I call a tourer!!!! ;)

Your box lid is officially stuck closed me thinks
