Fazer 1 or V Strom 1000
Which is better for both sport and potential touring? Or is there anything else out there in their price range? ST 1300 and the FJR 1300 or a bit too pricey at this point.

vfr 800 (Interceptor), cbr 1100xx (Blackbird), Vtr1000F (Firestorm), all are sporties and all will tour.wickedrider wrote:Which is better for both sport and potential touring? Or is there anything else out there in their price range? ST 1300 and the FJR 1300 or a bit too pricey at this point.

I've toured on a Superhawk for ten years and it really isn't a touring bike at all. It has terrible fuel range and isn't really the most comfortable thing going. I've done it 'cause I love the bike but in the past couple of years I've bought a couple of other bikes to handle the touring end of things.
I've never heard ANYBODY anywhere recommend a Superhwak as touring rig.....

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I've got my FZ1 set up for touring. I took 'er from NW Oregon to SLC last fall and she was totally comfortable the entire trip.
I like the Weestrom (Vstrom 650) for it's lightness if you plan on spending any time off of the pavement (no hard core dirt riding for that bike), but if you plan on road only duty then the FZ can be set up for touring and can handle it just fine.

We're the first ones to starve
We're the first ones to die
The first ones in line for that pie in the sky
But we're always the last
When the gravy's shared out
For the worker is working when the fat cat's about
