a bit gung-ho, huh...

The best all ar9ound bike isn't about what is best in any type of performance. The best bike is the one that fits you, your size, your riding style, and your needs best.

Here is my issue w/ buying a new sport bike... As soon as the next year model comes out yours looks out dated. Just take a look back at all of the CBRs and it is easy to see. Don't get me wrong, they are all great but it chaps my @ss to buy something for so much money to have it be outdated within a year of riding. Personally I have warmed to the classic look of the new Ducati Sport 1000. It has a classic look that will always be timeless and offers everything I am looking for in a sport bike. The price is right in range with the Hayabusa, so not outlandish for such a nice Ducati.

Wait 1 year and everything will change. Redesigns tend to come every two years. Honda and Kawi together, then Suzuki and Yamaha on the alternate years.

Sometimes the improvements from the previous year will beat out the competition the next year, but not always.

All in all, the BEST BIKE IS THE ONE THAT FITS YOU THE BEST.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Thanks for all the replies, can you tell me why you guys think the gixxer 750 is best all around?

A lot
of people have gixxers around here and it gets SO old seeing those bikes around and I have yet to see which bike fits right but i'm about 5'11 and 145 pounds so every bike I sit on feels really fat or big in the front and the gas tank is much wider and bigger than the bike I have now, but thats the new style I guess?? haha

I don't, neither do a lot of the other members if you read the posts.

If you're looking at super sports then I'd say the gsxr 750 but it doesn't get great mileage (trade off for performance), the maintenance costs are high (trade off for performance), the seating position is uncomfortable for long times in the saddle (trade off for performance), the insurance rates are high (trade off for a popular performance bike that lots of people get hurt on).

So I'd be back to saying the best all around would be the sv650s. It gets good mileage, lower maintenance costs, better seating position for longer times in the saddle (regular sv650 is reportedly better), decent insurance rates, more affordable, and still fun to race on the track.

Didn't we just go over this???

The Gixxer 750 from what I can see is mainly bought by people who have grown "bored" of their 600 but don't have the balls to ride the thou.

The problem is that 'best all round' is not very specific. There are so many different ways of measuring a bike that you need to be very clear about criteria.

List your top ten criteria and then maybe we'll be able to give you a reasonable answer.

Oh and for the record, there really is no justification for the 140+mph superbikes being on the road apart from they look pretty. End of.

So for me I'd be suggesting the CBR250 and CBR400 BabyBlades.
