I really liked the old 60s machines. Had a couple of brit bikes, a BSA and a Triumph. Also had a Honda 305 Dream. The honda was probably the best looking bike I have ever owned, white, just a beautiful machine. The brit bikes were kinda on the "rat" side, including an old chopper that I built. These bikes weren't much for performance as bikes go today but I really had fun with them. Just yearning for the machines of my youth I suppose. I doubt as I could ever recreate the fun I had on them back then but it sure would be nice to have a few of these old ones around. :D
Live it like you mean it, this ain't no dress rehearsal!

One of the basic qualifications I put on a specific bike and a generation of bikes is, "would I want to take a cross-country trip on that?" That narrows things down pretty fast. I just can't envision early generation Britbikes taking a 3k mile trip at a nice, steady 75-80, and if they could, doing it again to get home. But that's just me.

I like the 1940's bikes.. It was a time of innovation, a number of small manufacturers, and of course all the WWII Military Bikes form Harley, Indian, BMW, Zundapp, DKW etc...

Hey...it's identical to the Western Auto tricycle I had in the 50's..what can I say.. It lead to bigger and better things...and when I closed my eyes..it was an Indian Chief like my dad's.

As soon as I can shrink a picture of my Simplex small enough to be an avatar, I'll stick it in there..

The past, present and future

#17 Unread post by jhmiller »

The past is ment for remembering where we have been. There's where it will stay. I love the bikes of today. everything is better, safer, mostly trouble free and cooler styles than ever before. But I tend to like the naked bikes. The raw look of nothing extra, it's just you, the bike, and the wind. The freedom feeling you get from that is timeless.
