Learn something about Geology before posting stuff like this. Climate and Glaciation do not effect if/when a volcano erupts.

But getting back on topic. HDs already run an O2 sensor and closed loop. When they decide that they need Catalysts im sure you wont notice them at all, HD is very clever at hiding components like that.

That information was on CNN News, they had top expert that said global warming caused melting of the ice that covers the volcanos.

I don't think I'd take any scooter over the FZ6 - or for that matter, my old Ninja 250, which got 60 mpg, easily. I think the new Ninja 250, is a much better bike in all ways, doesn't get quite as good mpg, but even so, Ninja 250 beats scooter, handily.

To each his own though, scooters aren't bad and some motorcycles such as the BMW S1000R and the Honda VFR 1200 - are more scooter like in the fact that they either have automatic/semi automatic modes or can take care of the clutch themselves.

But personally, the typically larger wheels and tires - major suspension components - give me a lot more comfort on the road. This is something I like a lot on the FZ6 over the Ninja 250. I felt those tires were too small and that impacted riding handling (tank slapper) on ripped up getting ready to be repaved roads. The B-Kings tires were the best size. I wouldn't mind larger tires on smaller bikes.
I have owned a FZ6 since 2005 and I never got any better than 45 mpg
I'm a really conservative rider - and the vast majority of my miles are highway. I've only done a couple of fill-ups (all partial - no complete fills) so we'll see what my average is. So far, I'm really happy with it in terms of mpg. But so far, my last fill up was 56. That would give me a range of 280 miles, but I'm not sure how much I trust it yet. I'll do a couple more fill-ups and taking mpg before trying to go two days commute without a fill-up - which is only 245 or so miles. I should have a lot

According to Yamaha, 2010 FZ6R = 43mpg and 2010 TMAX = 47mpg. If you really want to save Mother Earth a CBR125 like csspostal's might make a more significant difference.

but with a CBR125 I can't go to my local home improvement store and haul home 3 bags of lawn fertilizer, then run to the food store and haul home 6 bags of food, and if I was caught in a rain storm riding home I would be mostly dry riding my scooter, and would you feel comfortable running the CBR125 on a long cross state trip at high speeds on 4 lane highways?
The CBR125 is a great bike for riding around close to home on back roads, but my scooter is a practable long distance touring machine just like the Gold Wing, except it gets better gas mileage and a new one costs $14K less than a Gold Wing

So far it has followed its normal eruption cycle, earthquake swarms began as the magma chamber filled around December. A small fissure opened up on on the side of the mountain in March. On April 14th an eruption began from the main crater which is the current eruption. The vents on this mountain are not covered by glaciers, though some glacial melt was caused by the lava flows going down the sides (a natural product of any eruption near a glacier). It has erupted 4 times in the last 1000 years so has a history of being active. Certainly not caused by global warming.

an interesting side note, there is a larger more active volcano next to this one that has traditionally erupted shortly after this volcano in the past, that one does happen to be under a glacier (Both magma chambers are probably fed from the same mantle plume). So there is a distinct possibility of another eruption in the area in the near future.

The sheer scale of events in the earth's crust that leads up to and triggers volcanic eruptions are soo big that there is little humans could do to have any impact on it to either cause or prevent an eruption. The process leading to an eruption is caused by convection currents very deep inside the earth.

Getting back on topic. Yes scooters have come a long way, more like a small touring bike with an automatic transmission than the tiny commuting appliances of old.

Hmmm, well I didn't get 56 mpg this past tank. 205 miles @ 4.127 gallons or a little over 49 mpg. Pretty good in my book for the power and the comfort.

I get 57 mpg consistently on the V-strom, meet emissions standards and can carry a passenger, camping gear for two, clothes, food for two weeks, and still have room for souvenirs. All for the discount price of $5700 for last years model. I can also take it offroad to cut 30 minutes off my commute, see over traffic, have a range of tires and options ranging from true offroad to track, completely destroy the twisties and have a ridiculously large aftermarket.
