Makes me wonder why they couldn't develop a tubeless spoked wheel for the R, since they already did it with the GS. Didn't their cruiser also have tubeless spoked wheels?

Because it's all about the look with the R Classic and all about function with the GS. The tubeless spoked wheel on the GS is not very pretty with the spokes being attached to the outer edge. It also looks very dirtbike-ish.

Honda also has a tubeless spoked wheel and the spoke attaches to a extended lip in the center. It actually looks much prettier than the BMW GS wheel. I'm surpised Honda does not use it more often. Hondagirl had a SL230 that came with it on the back but regular tubed spoke wheel on the front.

I think that bike deserves a young rider such as myself. I think it would be doing a disservice to BMW's reputation for a couple of geezers like yall riding it.

Tell you a little story about a poppy (SA name for young hot chick, maybe not too bright).

On one of our runs, my mate was on his ZX10 and I on my GS. This poppy had been nagging for a ride on the ZX. I led the group out onto some really great riding roads, but my mate had forgot to put petrol, being an old fart (him too) I told him to catch up, I was not holding up the whole group ride for him. (We are good mates, no foul)

20 kms into the ride, I heard this buzzing in my ear and then a "poing" as he went past me. OK game on. Myself and a couple of the other quicker riders indicated we were going to run fast (this is something we do on our runs) and off we went. The poppy meantime was on her boyfriends 600 RR pillion seat, the boyfriend being a good rider too, he tucked in behind us.

To cut a long story short, we arrived at the next garage to fill up and wait for the group. The poppy got of her boyfriends bike and before her helmet was even halfway off her head she was shouting at me and my mate.
The gist of it was that no way was she getting on the back of any of our bikes as we a were dodgy old men, who had lived our lives and could care less if we died.

The whole group packed up laughing as most of them knew that although we were over the speed limit we were not running anywhere near as quick as we would on a track and we don't take chances on the open road.

Not too bad for a couple of old geezers then.
