Wow Sapaul.

I just lost some respect for you right there.

No matter what you do, someone will call you a poser.

Ride a cruiser, some sport bikers think you're dirt.
Ride a sport bike, some cruisers thing you're gay.
Ride with a close faced helmet, and open face, beanie or no helmet riders think you're a wuss.
Ride with music and south africa thinks your a poser.

You know what I have to say to that? NUTS!

On the subject...this may not fully apply, but I listen to my iPOD EVERYTIME I ride my moped. This means over 800 miles of driving with headphones in. I've never really thought twice about it.

Now Now, do not get me wrong here. The point I am making is that certain bikes are good for riding and listening to music. That BMW has a six cd changer and seperate controls for front and back. As for posing, if you lash out a R175 000 for that baby, I think it would be sad not to have a Goose on the back and as everyone will stare at you anyway you might as well pose and look good. If you want to go scratching, jacked into your Ipod, good for you. There have been studies for cars that say that you should not listen to soothing music in the cage as this makes you less aware. maybe it is the same for a bike. Who knows?

I wonder if ganster rap would make you more aware. "backing up your (butt) with the resurrection, this is a group harder than an (banana) that shows no effection, they want to ban us on capitol hill, but it's die mother (trucker) die mother (trucker) still"

Or something like that, anyone have the office space soundtrack?

I listen to my IPOD with one of those Sony Fontopia (MDR-EX51LP) headphones; I wear only one ear (left) and keep it just high enough to hear some background music... I can hear my surroundings very well so I guess I am ok, at least much better than the many cagers I see with their stereos cranked up so high they can't even hear their own awful voice singing along

iPod ARGH! I see a million and one of those things around school. Why why why would you buy that?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Isn't that why they crank it up so high? If they actually could hear themselves, they wouldn't enjoy it (and neither would anyone within earshot)

They work really, really well? I don't have one, but I think my wife would go into withdrawals if she lost hers. She's had other .mp3 players (iriver, zenmicro) but she's a die-hard ipod convert now. I don't like necessarily having the most popular model of anything either... but sometimes there's a good reason for market dominance. I have to admit it's a pretty handy little device with a real nice user-interface. Maybe a bit overpriced but still a very good product.

I know why you ask the question, and I had resisted purchasing one until I got my bike (last June). I have computers with MP3 capability everywhere I work (home, office) so only needed one (initially :)) for my bike commute. When I started looking for a MP3 player, it quickly became clear that the other players are more overpriced than the IPOD. I found many with a measly 512Mb or 1 Gb memory priced around $150 and most had a terrible user interface, where the IPOD 30Gb was on special for $250 and has a very innovative interface!

I also use the IPOD in the van when we go on trips; I have an Alpine head unit with AUX input, so I purchased the minijack-to-Alpine cable ($20) and I'm all set! :)

So...that's why ;)
