That is 100% wrong.

The ACLU does no such thing.

Never has. Never will.

Please stop spreading this false information.

The First Amendment prohibits U.S. government officals from making religious statements (or from taking actions) that would lead to a state-sanctioned religion.

The ACLU is opposed to goverment actions that violate this aspect of the First Amendment. Period. As I wrote in my previous post, the ACLU doesn't give a s**t about what messages private companies choose to use to market their wares in December.

Here's a fact: Many, not all, corporations have made a marketing decision to say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" in order to appeal to as many of their customers as posssible, not just the Christian customers.

It was a boardroom decision to do this, made to fatten the company's bottom line. Or do you think the ACLU gets invited to corporations' board of directors meetings?

Where did you get this erroneous information about the ACLU, anyway? What Web site, publication, TV or radio show is spreading this false information?

Or, put another way, can you point me to some evidence that the ACLU is pressuring corporations in this way? Perhaps a letter the ACLU has sent to a company. Or a statement on the ACLU Web site pointing out how it was able to force a private company to change its policies in this way?

I will send $100 to a charity of your choice, in your name, if you can provide conclusive evidence that the ACLU has directly tried to force private corporations to abandon saying "Merry Christmas" and replace that phrase with a more generic holiday greeting.

P.S. Everyone does know, I hope, that the "memo" in the first post supposedly from the ACLU is someone's idea of a joke and is completely fabricated, right?

Based on the type of litigation the ACLU gets involved in it's no secret they are a vessel of the anti-Christian movement. They preach tolerance while they themselves discriminate, ridicule, and attack...all in the name of a "noble" cause.

On another note, Disney couldn't help but notice how much money Mel Gibson made with The Passion of the Christ and has been quoted as saying that they now see how profitable it can be to appeal to a "niche" market. Funny...since when is 70% of the U.S. population a "niche" market?

The ACLU is the voice of the left coast and a supporter of this type of Hollywood elitist mentality.

So, MERRY FRICKIN' CHRISTMAS YOU SOCIALIST BASTARDS!!!

(and Happy Holidays to you, Spiffy)

The ACLU is not anti-Christian. If Jewish groups would ever agitate to engrave Torah scrolls above the entrances to court houses, the ACLU would oppose that, too. But it's some Christian groups that are currently trying to knock down the separation between church and state, so it's not surprising that ACLU lawsuits are filed against these groups.

So, the ACLU is not anti-Christian, which is evidenced by the tens of thousands of Christians who have paid dues to join the organization and the hundreds of thousands of Christians who support its actions.

And yet the ACLU supports the free speech rights of neo-Nazis. Go figure!

Chill out. The NRA gets bashed for their uncompromising support for the Constitution as well. I'm sure you support them with the same fervor, but that free speech stuff cuts both ways, man.

That's a nice try, but it doesn't peg my offend-o-meter..... :)
Maybe the ACLU should keep their people away from border areas, in case they are mistaken for coyotes and shot on sight. The article does give a little insight on how the ACLU views and interprets things, though.
