My Politically Correct Seasons Greetings

#1 Unread post by Wizzard »

As a professional in modern society, I have been cautiously advised ,that
according to the ACLU, I may need a Politically Correct Season's
Greetings so not to possibly offend any of my friends. Here is what
was suggested...

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all . . .

...and a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically
uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted
calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of
other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great,
(not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is
the only "AMERICA" in the Western Hemisphere), and without regard to the
race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual preference of the wishee.

Legal Disclaimer:
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and isvoid where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

And for those of us not politically correct: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...and you know what the ACLU can do with their suggestion, as I'll hang mistletoe over my back belt loop and they can kiss what sits below the mistletoe.

With all my positive emotional support;
Wizzard

Uhhh, yeah, Merry Christmas to you as well.

*suddenly very glad I'm Canadian*
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Uhhh, laid back is term. Canadians are allowed to be vaguely offensive because we're so polite, eh?

Political correctness not required here.

Hey, Wizz, why don't you come and work in my (Government) office. There's a job just waiting for a man with serious talents like yours :D (I'm glad to see someone takes these issues seriously! .

Oh please, let us never, never offend anyone or anything (except ourselves). :frusty:

Why the hate for the ACLU?

I'm not a fan of overly zealous PC garbage either, but I support the U.S. Constitution 100%, as does the ACLU.

The ACLU fights for our rights guaranteed in the First Amendment, which includes the separation of church and state.

Your post seems to imply that the ACLU is out to slam anyone who says "Merry Christmas" to someone else, which is a gross, unfair, and (frankly) bizarre distortion of what the ACLU stands for.

The ACLU fights to keep government officials from unconstitutionally promoting one religious faith over another. They are very concerned that the U.S. not become a theocracy, where people who do not adhere to the offical state religion are treated as second-class citizens.

A theocracy is un-American, my friend, and so the ACLU fights to keep the U.S. from falling into that trap.

The ALCU doesn't give a s**t about what greetings you give out on an Internet bulletin board, or whether you say "Merry Chrismas" to everyone you meet on the street.

But it does care quite a bit about government officials who don't abide by the U.S. Constitution. And rightly so.

Sorry for the strong words, but I hate it when people distort the mission of the ACLU like this. Sometimes it's done out of ignorance, sometimes it's done out of malice, and sometimes I can't figure out why it's done.

But it sure ticks me off when people slam this great organization that fights to preserve our constitutional rights.

Its not just the government the ACLU is keeping check on, its corporations. I hate that everyone in the commercials says 'happy holidays' instead of just merry christmas. Why not say both? You're building up to xmas eve, admit it! You're trying to get people to buy for xmas day! Its a religious holiday, you can celebrate it however you want, but it is. Ignoring that fact is just silly, and its silly for anyone to be offended by it. You can accept and enjoy other people's beliefs without punishing the majority (did we forget what democracy is?).

If Dillards wants to say Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, they should have every right to. Saying "Merry Christmas" shouldn't get them sued.

Sorry for the rant, but this year especially I have noticed that this season I haven't heard one mention of Christmas on television, period. As a non-Christian, I find it ridiculous to punish the 95% of Americans who WANT to celebrate Christmas just because a few people get offended. I enjoy other people's belief systems and traditions, I don't try to squash them just because I eat a different slice of the pie.

PS: Merry Christmas!

You can add my butt to have the "great organization" collective lips kiss mine also.

On second thought I'd rather not have those people close to me in any way.
