I know the RC211V puts out about 240hp, the Ducati Desmocidici does about 250. All will go over 200 and get there reeeally quickly!
Right now the max is 1000cc's, next season they're knocking that down to 800. I have no idea why though...you make a sport for "cutting edge" bikes than then take a step backwards...hrm...

Maybe because 800cc bikes now can go faster then 1000cc bikes could previously... Just an idea, could be wrong.

Well, if they can squeeze close to the power out of a 800 as they can the 1000, it should perform better in twisties, easier to flip that moving mass back and forth they call the engine. And if it's close in power, the straights won't be that much slower.

Yeah, I agree. Honestly it won't be much of a speed difference because these while these bikes can do 200+ mph, they usually aren't doing near that speed due to all the twisties (I heard that Rossi's average KPH in Qatar was 164 or so). So hopefully they'll keep around the same power with lighter weight. Not that they need less weight, there's already a weight min/max that have to follow, which is really light. I know that the YZR-M1 puts out about 240 hp and weighs about 320 lbs (less than any current 600cc RR bike!)
All I'm saying is that I hope this is a step forward. It will open up a new avenue of 800cc bikes though. I can imagine one of the major makers creating a 799cc superbike that looks similar to their GP bike in the next few years...

What kind of transmissions are these bikes running?
Do they use F1 style hand shifters or are they regular bike foot pedals?

You and your 600hp modified 1 cylinder Blast!
The GP bikes use normal shifters, although they often have the sequence reversed (not sure what the benefit is) to 1 up, 5 down.

Gives more clearance when upshifting out of a left hand corner. They don't need to swing their foot out around and under the shifter, just stomp down to shift up.
It would take a TON of getting used to though.

My friend has his bike set up like that to learn on it. He's getting in to racing though (been riding for about 2 years now)

im running reverse shift right now. got it done two days ago. it's not as bad to adjust as i imagined.
went home from the mechanic w/ the reverse shfiter newly installed. took the freeway. then later that afternoon went for some joy rides and it starting to grow up on me.
not yet 100% instinctive w/ it but given a few more days, i'll get there.
