i have done the wet shirt thing too. it works pretty well, and i need it cuz even though i have a mesh my pants start to roast me. now that its hot gloves are no longer part of my riding uniform. too hard to get on and off when they are sweaty, no more boots. just my tennis shoes.

Yes, it was a crazy hot weekend. We went (in our cage) and ended up spending the middle part of each day riding around with our dogs in our air conditioned Honda Element. But, it was a lot of fun, because we geocache (GPS scavenger hunt hobby), and we ended up finding a lot of great out of the way places all around St. Augustine while doing that.

I saw a gorgeous bike at the San Sebastian winery in St. Augustine. I told my wife to hold on, so I could check, and sure enough--- it was a near identical MeanStreak to the one in ZooTech's avatar. Gorgeous, the first one I'd seen in person.

Same type of weather up here in Conn too except its not humid. I went for a short ride around 1 pm and sweated by butt off. I was going to ride the bike to work decided against it tho. If its too hot for gear I'm not riding.

On my way to work I saw a guy riding a HD on the highway wearing sneakers, shorts, and sunglasses. Thats right no shirt.

I can understand the appeal of riding without gear especially when its hot. The problem is the cagers. I don't have any confidence in them at all. I need all the protection I can get on the road.

The cagers don't bother me at all. It is when you hit the road that the fun begins...and just about anything can cause you to dump it.
I always wear full gear (including pants and boots) when I commute to work in summer or winter. As they say "familiarity breeds contempt".

my jacket is a nice 3 season one, unfortunatly we are in season #4.

im looking at getting a new mesh jacket for this summer. i really need pants too though.

to those who dont wear gear on small trips like to work or to the store-

If i knew what day i was going to crash that would be the only day i'd suit up, but since i have no idea when i'll crash im going to prepare for it every time i throw a leg over and hope today is not the day.

As for jackets, I am sporting an Icon Tarmac mesh jacket, and it seems to be a great summer jacket (or as great as any jacket could be in Orlando). It is perforated enough that air moves through it so well that the jacket doesn't even ruffle in the wind, but still keeps the sun off my skin.

I've also noticed that wearing long sleeves under the jacket seems to make me feel cooler than wearing short sleeves/t-shirt. I think its a combo of keeping more sun off my skin, and trapping more sweat against my skin. I also think riding without a helmet would make my head really freaking hot, even while moving. Not too mention that my male pattern baldness would end up with a glowing sunburn....

When it is 90 degrees + I play the odds game. I still wear boots, jeans and gloves... but I risk it with a light shirt and 1/2 helmet. I do wear full gear on days when it is hot as hell... but when the humidity kicks in and it’s over 90, I say F it.[/list]

I agree, this is well said.

i wear all my gear all the time even when it's "hotter'n a crotch".

found that filling up a camelback with ice cold water and wearing it under my jacket helped...the key for me also is to keep moving and avoid the downtown areas if possible to get away from all the "stop-n-go" traffic
