So I've had several people tell me that I will get reaaly tired of this bike within a few months of riding (since it is only a 250)

I am planning on doing some commuting to and from work on the bike (~25 each way) on highway.

Does anyone have experience riding a 250 at highway speeds? Do they have enough get up and go to pass an 18-wheeler going 75mph?

-2 weeks til I get my 89 VTR250
I will go against the total motorcycle grain and tell you... you probably will get bored of that bike fast, especially if you ride with other competent riders. I started on a Honda 750cc v-twin and anytime my friends and I hit the moutains or highways (they all had more powerful bikes) I was constantly trying to keep up and had to shift much more often. The Ninja 250 has, even by already very good bike standards, very good resale value.

You can almost "rent" a Ninja. Buy it, learn it, ride it.

If you get completely bored of it in a couple months then just sell it, you may not get what you paid for but unless you somehow demolish the bike, you will get damn close to it.

Then buy whatever you want.

who the hell cares?

it's all about having fun w/ the ride, not who's faster, unless you are racing.

that said... i have only ridden w/ 1 guy on ninja 250. he's got more skills than me i bet... but im faster than him. im sure it's bec of the power difference in our bikes or he might be holding back since he's not knee-dragging.

so you were racing him on the street?

anyways, whether a 250 will be enough is up to you. Think about things, do you like your cars fast or powerfull, or do you drive around something very small and economical, do you like things more on the fast and yeehaw side or not? I started with a very not powerfull bike, ninja 250 would eat it any day of the week, and I was ok with the power, there were many other things on it that made me get rid of it fast, but the power and speed were fine.

nope, we were on a group canyon ride.

i always let guys i don't know go ahead of me since i dunno their skill. i was tailing him and then he signalled me to go ahead of him. i never intended to pass him w/o him giving me the signal to pass him.

i do the same... if a guy is tailing me on every corner, i always give the signal for them to pass me on the next straight. it's canyon riding courtesy.

but i hate those those guys that pass on mid corners though. that's not cool since what if people decide to change their lines to avoid something. thankfully, i very rarely meet those kind of riders.

you stop with that logical train of thought right this second! :frusty:

The little VTR will be fine - I looked long and hard for one when I was in HS and trying to get a bike. If that is what you want to ride, get it. My advice is simple - ride for YOU. Short of crashing, if you ride for YOU, there's no way you won't have fun. Start worrying about what other people think - and you'll get yourself into trouble, regardless of what you're doing.
