I've heard mixed views on that - the dude I bought my Ninja from looked astonished when I suggested actually riding it in the wintertime (though we've had some mild winters) while others seem to have no problem with it.
I'm in south NJ, my wife & I haven't winterized bikes for a couple of years. Seems like the winters are milder and dryer than they used to be. We get snow, but it usually only lasts a couple of days. Any time the roads are dry and the temp is above 25F or so I'll ride. Longest I've gone without riding in winter is 2 1/2 weeks.

I've put about 900 miles so far on my Honda after owning her for about a month and a half now. There will be many, many more miles to come and I hope riding this winter will be bearable.

Sometimes it snows and I think I've done about 1500 K's so far since I got the bike a few weeks back.

Now when I was young and foolish, I would average around 100 miles a day, five days week, less on weekend and stat holidays, in all kinds of weather, sun, wind, rain, sleet, snow, you name it, I was dumb enough to ride in it....mind you if I didn't, I wouldn't get paid....ah the romantic and dare devil life of a Vancouver motorcycle courier....

Living in Chicago we get our fair share of snow and ice.
3500 miles so far with a trip to Mackinac Island planned in 2 weeks. Love to ride!!!

That's actually amazing. Even with my trip, I'm only sitting close to 18,500km
Yes, but you did most of that in a short time. I've been out on the Ural since 1 Jan and the Harley since 9 Mar.

See you got the Ural to be able ride as much as you do. I had to rough it out on 2 wheels, a cruiser no less. :P

I've never winterized my bikes ever since I started riding. When it snows I just use the bus or borrow the car, once the streets are plowed I'm off to ride to school/ getting food/ shopping. If you have a good warm jacket (most motorcycle jackets are unlike those designer jackets) and good tires for cold weather handling.

1) Yes

2) About 4800 since early June, the SV is my sole source of transportation, aside from public transit, thanks to becoming an insurance statistic. Financing and insuring my bike is actually cheaper than insuring my ol' Grand Prix. Is that good or bad?

Ha, I've just put on 532 miles today! It started out as just picking up some electrical stuff then I found myself hopping to different motorcycle shops then I just kept on going when I reached the highway.

I guess I can't sell a bike that's made the 31,000+ mark huh 'cause i found a
2001 Kawasaki Z750 for $4000 and it looks great and only 4,000 miles on it.
