I think its also best to be behind. I can stop alot faster than that semi, and me hitting him seems alot safer than him hitting me!

The worst I think is to be on the side of him. Either he merges, or someone else hits you from behind or the other side, and you could easily drop right under the trailer and under those big wheels.
