A 1982 with a rotary engine? Mazda didnt start building the rotary until 2000-something, yes? They made such a big deal out of it, I cant imagine they've been doing it for 30 years.ZooTech wrote:Rotary engine. Awesome if taken care of, a complete POS otherwise. And good luck finding a decent (and affordable) rotary engine mechanic.CNF2002 wrote:I agree with Zoo except for the RX-7, Ive never had this kind of car but it looks decent.
Have a look. Mazda has been using rotary engines since 1967, and the RX7 has always had one since its inception in 1978. Suzuki even had a rotary powered motorcycle from '74-'76.CNF2002 wrote:A 1982 with a rotary engine? Mazda didnt start building the rotary until 2000-something, yes? back before the RX7s came out...they Mazda...first put the Rotary engine in the lil pickups...they had a problems with them....seals kept blowing...over time they fixed the problems...and they have become graet engines....CNF2002 wrote:Amazing. I knew the rotory engine had been around, but not in production. When Mazda started talking about its new RX a few years ago with a rotary engine, they made it sound like it was a new concept...kept talking about how they were too inefficient until recently.
The last generation RX7 had twin turbos, and the all new RX8 is naturally aspirated. That's what all the hubbubb was about.CNF2002 wrote:Amazing. Back in the 70s, all Mazda products (mostly small sedans) had rotary engines. That was their thing. I don't remember seeing a piston powered Mazda (in the U.S.) until around 1980. They seemed to be as efficient as most other small cars of the era. The only rub was that you had to go to the dealer for any kind of engine work. Regular mechanics wouldn't touch 'em.CNF2002 wrote:Amazing. I knew the rotory engine had been around, but not in production.
