The CRX was a great car, but it's a favorite for ricers so their condition is always questionable. It could last damn near forever like most Hondas, or it could pick at your savings every month with little BS repairs.

Keep an eye out for a decent Nissan Stanza or Sentra, an Acura Integra, or a Mazda MX3.

As for the truck, in that price range I'd stick with four cylinders or you're gonna end up with an older model with an unreliable engine (V6's of yesteryear were crap for the most part, with few exceptions). Look for Nissan Hardbody's, Isuzu Pups, Mazda B2000/2200/2600's, or a Toyota. Stay away from older S10's unless, again, you like fixing stuff.

You're lucky to live in California where the above-mentioned vehicles have not yet succumbed to the rust gods.

OBO=or best offer. Means they are willing to lower the price if they dont get alot of bites.

I disagree with the S10s, I had one, an 87, ran like a champ. Car reliability depends mostly on how they are cared for...with the CRX like all the ricer mobiles it was probably abused, as the owner may have been under the fantasy that it was a race car.

I agree with Zoo except for the RX-7, Ive never had this kind of car but it looks decent.

Personally I'd go for a sedan. You can get one cheaper, its more likely to have been treated nicely (no brat kids racing it around) and it will be nicer for the money. If you are interested in comfort and style, otherwise get the sportscar.

Hey, my wife bought a sportscar when she got right out of college. What a mistake, when we married we got rid of that car quick!

Rotary engine. Awesome if taken care of, a complete POS otherwise. And good luck finding a decent (and affordable) rotary engine mechanic.
