1981 honda cb 750 custom 9k miles - $2250 This popped up just now.
Heading to the dealer now to look at the 2009 GS500. One thing I did not put much thought into is I wonder if I can get financing or not. Logically it would seem, yes, I am unemployed. But I can show them bank statements that I can more than pay it off outright. But I know logic does not always reign supreme.

Re: First Bike: EX500, GS500, etc...
Well bummer, they did not talk specifics but basically said the price is pretty firm. Would not get financing either (which I suspected) but to go that high into my budget I would want financing to make it worth it so meh. Even if I talked him down to that price cash I am not sure it would be worth it for my first bike.
Curiously he showed me the mechanics latest flip-and-sell, a used GS500
. He said something about a couple weeks, but I hope they have an idea of price within a couple days. I am going to text the guy with the 2005 20k miles GS500 and basically see if I can get him down a little more to $2300, if so I will go out and get a look at it tomorrow or this weekend.
EDIT: 1996 CBR600F3 not sure on miles - $2300

Someone just e-mailed me a Yellow 2004 GS500 with 2,000 miles. Wants $2,400. And close to boot! Told him I will come look at it even without pictures, hell I might not even try to haggle if its in decent shape!
Crossing fingers this is the one!

ALWAYS try to haggle. It's half of the fun!
Then again when I was shopping for my truck I was told by the manager of two used car lots that I'm a "tough sunofabeech" to deal with haha.

I'm a notorious haggler too. But to be fair I normally feel like I am overpaying for garbageWrider wrote:ALWAYS try to haggle. It's half of the fun!

You could also ask for little things such as he do an oil and filter change on the bike and/or have it taken in to be checked by a mechanic and/or brake fluid change etc.

Re: First Bike: EX500, GS500, etc...
Got it! It is in great shape from what we could tell, needs the chain tightened so will look into that, would rather just have it done but not sure how much the local dealer will try to charge for something so simple. Wouldn't mind a modulated break light too (again no idea what they will charge for that either).
It is a 2004 Suzuki GS500F with 1,900 miles, got her for $2,300. Unfortunately I had to go cover for someone at Papa John's so did not get much riding time today. Will tomorrow, probably, not sure how much I should ride with the loose chain. Part of me thinks what is a day or two, but who knows how long it was ridden with a loose chain.

Everyone should have a bike specific forum to go to in addition to this excellent all around general bike forum. We have a very active GS500 forum where every possible GS question has been answered so drop by for a visit sometime. Most are soon doing their own service and repair work.

Also how loose is the chain? It's supposed to have some slack in it. Lemme go grab the specs real quick on it.

Re: First Bike: EX500, GS500, etc...
The spec is 20-30 mm or .8 to 1.2 inches of slack while on the side stand. Keep in mind that's with a little bit of tension on the chain too, just enough to turn the skin white where you're touching the chain.
