How to wheelie??

One thing to remember when riding a long wheelie is to make sure you have a lot of gas in the tank.

Decades ago I had a friend who worked at a bike shop and used to impress the hell out of everyone by riding mile long wheelies on the road in front of the shop. He coud do it on anything from a moped to a 6-cyl KZ1300. One day he was doing it on a customer's KZ550. Just as he passed the shop, the engine cut, then surged, then cut again. 2 seconds later he was on the pavement with some broken bones and the bike was trashed. Turned out the bike was low on gas and the wheelie caused the petcock to start sucking air.

I see alot of wisdom being shared about not doing weelies...
But as another member of the " young and stupid club", I'll tell you how... Start out slow!!! Dont start out at 10/11,000 RPMS!!!!!!! Start at 4/5,000, drop the clutch and work your way up till you get that OOOHHH CCCRRRAAAPPP!!! Feeling... Then your there...

thanks guys for all yoru input, but after reading all these entries and consulting with my riding budies, i opted to not wheelie! i wont even try it. call me chicken, but dont call me dead

I agree with the two above me regarding learning to do a wheelie on an expendable dirtbike before attempting this trick on your pride and joy.

I can tell you that the first rule in safe wheelies is to always land the front wheel ahead of the rear wheel.
