The only way to ride and stay in one piece is to BE AWARE! The other day I was riding 35 mph in a 35 mph zone and was the only one on the road and a guy in a tri-axle semi pulled across both westbound lanes and both of the eastbound lanes (I was in the right eastbound lane) and pinched me off between his wheels and the curb. I got stopped and so did he and my tire was literally between his back tire and the curb. After I backed up and he pulled away, I went around him. I was going to pull him over and drag him out of his truck through the window, but as I pulled along side him, he had a truly horrified look on his face and mouthed the words "I'm sorry." When we got to the next light, he leaned out of the window and said "Man, I never saw you."

On the other hand, I was in Meadville PA Sunday and a guy in a Dodge 300 looked right at me, then pulled out and tried to "bully" me into getting over a lane. (He was coming across 2 westbound lanes, a left turn lane and into the two eastbound lanes). I maintained eye contact with him right up until his car was 3 inches from my leg- then he finally backed off and pulled in behind me. He then passed me going at least 70 in a 35 mph zone and flipped ME off!

....and to think I left my rocket launcher at home.....

Guys like the guy in the Dodge are sick, they have no sense of consequence until it happens and then they are shocked, Some people just live in their own totally selfish world and think everthing revolves around them. If you ever see that guy again, throw a wobbly at him, LEVEL 3 minimum.

I seriously considered removing his mirror with my boot, but my wife was on the back of the bike, plus I would have been in the wrong.

I can handle people who don't see you, even if they aren't paying attention, but this guy had a "Hemi" and I guess he has a sense of entitlement. I got the idea he was playing paper rock sissors with his car. "My new Hemi Dodge over runs your nasty murdercycle, creatin!"

"Wobbler training"? I have no idea what your talking about, school me, it sounds interesting!

As for his mirrors? Probably never uses 'em anyhow!

Wobblies have degrees and run from:

Shouting and pointing your finger like a rubber wand

keeping quiet and giving the guy a flat hand across the side of his head so he does not hear for a week.

Picking the guy up and throwing him some disance before sticking the boot in.

Explaining to your lawyer that the last thing you remember was seeing this guy sitting on your bike and then all a blank until you realised you were in a cell. Oh and by the way just how badly injured did you say he and his three friends were.

I only admit to one and two but, please go ahead enjoy yourself.

AND IF YOU THINK I AM MEAN YOU SHOULD SEE WHAT HAPPENS IF SOMEONE SITS ON MY WIFES PART OF THE SEAT. Wobblies with weapons

Well then, I'm a semi-pro!

This has been a good thread. At least it gets us thinking about how bikes are perceived, and how our riding style can effect our safety.

For me the bottom line is driving as defensively as possible, and never getting complacent. I just like to just cruise, enjoy the ride, and never get in a hurry. When I see someone passing recklessly or splitting lanes at high speed, it scares the hell out of me for their safety.

I split lanes at high speed, sometimes in order for me to find my "bubble". Lots of room behind and lots in front.

My grand-dad always said...."Ride like everyone ELSE out there is trying to kill you, and you'll be fine!" Old man was right more than he'll ever know!
