providing it doesn't get killed off from all the corruption that it seems to be infested with.
And yet we keep winning elections. Funny how that works.

I agree it is funny. Us Democrats always seem to have something that get's in our way, oh yeah it's called a conscience and your party isn't burdened by one of those. The right wing neocons are just much better manipulators.

I don't ussually get too involved in the political craap here, but....

Is anybody really 100% republican or democrat? Or are are most folks maybe biased towards one or the other, but not so rigidly obsessed on every topic as their platforms force the politicains to be? Or does everyone fall into party lines on every subject in accordance with what thier chosen party proclaims?

That's pretty much my stand on it as well, Whitey. I believe that any single one of our politicians will say whatever the person they are talking to wants to hear. Then do whatever makes them the most money/power whenever they damwell feel like it. I don't believe a thing they say or have any trust in them as any type of decent human being at all. They will act in whatever fashion gets them what they want, but they never tell you what they really want, so your still left in the dark. I hate politics and politicians even more.

Too bloody bad it's the best system mankind has managed to come up with...... :frusty:

While I am a registered democrat I never really used to consider myself a hardlined party guy, but the more I read and learn the more I become exactly that. Even at the local government level, the republicans are all sleezebags with their pockets tied so tightly to big business, and frankly the democrats just aren't. I know politics and politicians are inherintly flawd, but the right wing is the worst evil, interested only in lining their owns pockets and not in helping average citizens.

Wow- just read through this whole thing.

First we don't have a democracy, we have a republic. It's been that way since town meetings went the way of the dodo bird. It gives the U.S. the seeming intelligence of our commander in chief, which is to say none, when we state that we are trying to bring a "democracy" to a place like Iraq.

Really- this is all a skewed view of JFK's call to fight worldwide for the preservation of freedom, which coincidentally was part of the reason we went to Vietnam.

However, by trying to surplant a large part of the American culture in Iraq we are doomed to failure. They have thousands of years of refinement leading them to where they are today, and a few forced years of American ideas will inevitably revert soon after we leave. You can't change a culture overnight

Anyway- about politicians, it's a damned shame what most of them have become in the U.S. Republicans play to sensibilities and protect their money base and democrats take too much offense at anything and try to enact large changes too radical to ever bring republicans instead of multiple small ones to progress their goals. Now that we have a largely conservative leg, exec and judicial branch we're going to start having problems of party protection instead of progress.

Where's an honest politician when you need one?
